The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2025 will make a symbolic return to the Padang this 6–7 December, as the landmark venue becomes the race’s final stretch for the first time since 2019.
A key highlight of the upcoming edition is its shift to a two-day race format, separating the Half Marathon and Marathon events – a move organisers say is driven by significant growth in participation, with the former increasing by 46% and the latter by 31% over the past three years.
“The Padang’s deep historical significance and central location offer both new and returning runners a unique way to experience the rich heritage of the city, and a memorable way to end their race journey,” said Jeff Edwards, Managing Director of Asia at The IRONMAN Group, which organises the event.
Set against the neoclassical grandeur of the National Gallery Singapore – formerly the Supreme Court and City Hall – runners will race past some of Singapore’s most iconic civic architecture. The route promises both scenic appeal and accessibility, giving supporters ample space to cheer.
Adding to the spectacle is a festival-like atmosphere, complete with cultural performances, skyline photo ops, food options and recovery zones.
New Format and Race Schedule
For the first time, the main race weekend will span two days. The Half Marathon kicks off at 4.30am on Saturday, followed by the 5km and Kids Dash. The Marathon and Ekiden Relay will take place on Sunday morning.
Full Schedule:
Saturday, 6 December
4.30am: Half Marathon 6.30am: 5km 9.00am: Kids Dash
Sunday, 7 December
4.30am: Marathon & Ekiden 6.30am: 10km
The move to shift the Kids Dash to Saturday morning is aimed at making the event more inclusive for families, allowing them to take part in the festive race-day experience together.
Landmark Year, Historic Finish
The 2025 edition coincides with Singapore’s 60th year of independence. The Padang – a site that has witnessed pivotal national moments, including the first National Day Parade – is expected to amplify the emotional significance of this year’s finish line.
“As we celebrate Singapore’s 60th year of independence, the Padang provides the perfect backdrop for this marquee sporting event,” said Roy Teo, Chief of Industry Development at Sport Singapore. “We invite runners from all walks of life to step forward, secure their spots, and start preparing for the largest run in Singapore.”
Lilian Chee, Director of Sports at the Singapore Tourism Board, added that the SCSM is “a marquee event that strengthens Singapore’s position as a premier sporting destination,” especially with its World Athletics Gold Label status – the only such event in Southeast Asia.
A Brand Boost and Global Appeal
Adding further energy to the event is a new partnership with adidas, which comes onboard as the official apparel and footwear sponsor. All participants will receive adidas race apparel, and special SCSM-adidas merchandise will be made available in the lead-up to the race. Race singlet and finisher tee try-outs will be hosted at selected adidas stores, with more details to be released closer to the date.
SCSM 2025 continues to grow its international draw, with over 7,000 overseas participants already registered. Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and China remain the top international markets, mirroring strong regional interest in Singapore’s flagship running event.
Training and Promotions Ahead of Race Day
A series of eight official training runs will begin on 30 August, organised in partnership with the Running Department. These sessions cater to all levels and cover distances from 5km to 33km, guided by professional pacers.
To mark SG60, Standard Chartered Singapore has also introduced the SG60 Ekiden promotion. On National Day, the first 60 Ekiden teams to register will receive a $60 discount, with Standard Chartered cardholders enjoying an additional 15% off. The promotion will also extend to other race categories, with details to follow.
Standard Chartered, the marathon’s title sponsor for over 20 years, described the event as a celebration of shared values and progress.
“We’ve witnessed the rise of SCSM to become a world-class event… a reflection of the country’s continued drive towards excellence and innovation,” said Patrick Lee, CEO, Singapore and ASEAN, Standard Chartered.
