The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2024 concluded its weekend of races with record-breaking participation and a refreshed race experience that solidified its position as the region’s premier endurance event. Over 55,000 runners, including 13,000 international participants from 84 countries, took part in races across multiple categories, all finishing at the iconic Anderson Bridge, a historic and picturesque new endpoint.
As Southeast Asia’s only World Athletics Gold Label race, SCSM 2024 delivered a celebration of endurance, teamwork, and community, while showcasing Singapore’s vibrant cityscape to the world.

In the Gold Label Elite Marathon, Geoffrey Yegon of Kenya claimed the men’s title with a time of 02:16:06, while Fantu Zewude Jifar of Ethiopia took the women’s crown in 02:39:04.
Reflecting on his first SCSM win, Geoffrey said, “It feels very good to win. It’s my first time in Singapore, and I trained very hard in Kenya to try to win the race.”
Fantu added, “Happy to have won, Singapore is a beautiful country to race in. I’m not sure what I’ll do with the prize money, but I know I can’t wait to come back to Singapore.”
Both winners took home USD $45,000 in prize money, underscoring the race’s prestige on the global running calendar.
National Champions Shine Bright
The National Championship highlighted Singapore’s local talent, with Soh Rui Yong and Rachel See emerging victorious in the men’s and women’s marathon categories. Soh, a five-time National Champion, completed the course in 02:46:05, while Rachel, also the Women’s Masters champion, crossed the finish line in 03:00:45.
“This year’s race was tougher than last year,” Soh noted, citing the new route along West Coast Highway and the Benjamin Sheares Bridge. “But overall, I’m very happy with the results.”
Rachel shared, “This race was about more than chasing a personal best; it was about being present, enjoying the journey, and celebrating the process. SCSM 2024 was a truly fulfilling experience.”

In the Half Marathon, Shaun Goh and Vanessa Lee claimed titles in the men’s and women’s categories with times of 01:12:31 and 01:24:17 respectively, both becoming two-time champions.
A Celebration of Teamwork and Community
The return of the Ekiden race added a layer of camaraderie, as teams worked together to complete the marathon distance. The relay took participants past landmarks such as Marina Bay and East Coast Park, with unique connectable Ekiden medals symbolizing teamwork.
A dedicated Family and Friends Zone at the finish line brought supporters together, while Samba dancers, Chinese drummers, and roving performers created a festive atmosphere. Runners also enjoyed perks like food truck vouchers and exclusive collaborations with sponsors.
SCSM 2024’s legacy extended beyond the race, with funds raised for the Futuremakers programme, empowering youth with skills and opportunities for a brighter future.
Patrick Lee, CEO of Standard Chartered Singapore and ASEAN, said, “This year’s marathon exemplifies inclusivity, bringing together elite runners, individuals of different abilities, and everyday runners as one community. It’s a powerful reminder of how sport can inspire positive change.”
Into 2025
The event’s success reflects its growing prominence in the global sports calendar. Jeff Edwards, Managing Director of Asia for The IRONMAN Group, said, “We’re thrilled with this year’s success and can’t wait to take the event to an even higher level in 2025!”
With high spirits, breathtaking performances, and stories of resilience, SCSM 2024 leaves a lasting impact, promising another incredible chapter in Singapore’s premier marathon next year.
