The 2024 Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) Kids Dash brought joy and energy to Singapore’s iconic F1 Pit Building as over 5,500 children and parents participated in this year’s race—a 10% increase in registrations compared to last year. Against the stunning backdrop of Singapore’s twilight skyline, young runners and their parents raced through the Central Business District, sharing laughter, camaraderie, and the thrill of crossing the finish line.

Designed to introduce children to the world of running, this year’s Kids Dash offered two categories: a 600-metre race for kids aged 6 and under and a 900-metre race for ages 7 to 12. These short races not only provided a chance for families to bond but also served as an inspiring gateway for future athletes.

Adding to the festivities, the Kids Village offered a carnival-like atmosphere with bouncy castles, game booths, human foosball, and delicious treats like cotton candy and popcorn, ensuring a fun-filled day for the whole family.

Inspiring Moments on the Track

Among the participants was Guinness World Record holder and para-athlete Dr Zac Leow, running alongside his daughter. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “I’m thrilled to be back at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, and this time, I’m especially happy to be here with my daughter. She thoroughly enjoyed the run, and I’m sure she’d be eager to return next year.”

Dr Leow made headlines at the 2023 SCSM by setting a world record as the fastest male para-athlete marathoner in the CI1 category, with an incredible time of 4 hours, 51 minutes, and 59 seconds. This year, his participation in the Kids Dash marked a sweet continuation of his journey, fueled by a passion for running and family.

Participants were treated to a full suite of race-day entitlements, including a race bib, running tee, a Kids Dash gift, a finisher’s medal, and light refreshments. As a special bonus, kids with an SCSM race bib gained free admission to the Singapore Flyer and Time Capsule with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket. This promotion runs from 29 November to 8 December 2024, adding extra value to the event.

For parents like Mrs Orathai Lee, who joined the race with her twin 7-year-olds and husband, the Kids Dash is more than a race – it’s a cherished family tradition. “The kids have been very excited to take part, and it’s always something to look forward to,” she shared.

A Weekend of Festivities Ahead

The weekend-long SCSM festivities continue with the 5km and 10km categories on 30 November, followed by the Half Marathon (21.1km) and Full Marathon (42.195km) on 1 December 2024. With events catering to runners of all ages and abilities, the SCSM promises another unforgettable year of fitness and family fun.
