Google has unveiled two major initiatives aimed at upskilling Malaysian youth and streamlining public service delivery through advanced AI and cloud technologies. These efforts align with the MADANI Economy Framework and underscore a robust partnership between Google and the Malaysian Government, promising to shape a future-ready workforce and enhance governmental efficiency.

Empowering Malaysian Youth with Digital Skills

As part of its first initiative, Google, in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), aims to democratize access to digital skills among Malaysian youth. A total of 161 higher education institutions will benefit from the distribution of 500 Google Career Certificate scholarships each. This initiative targets to arm students from diverse backgrounds with crucial competencies in fields like cybersecurity, data analytics, and IT support, following a flexible, self-paced online learning model designed by Google experts. The initiative builds on the success of Gemilang, a digital training program launched by Google in 2022, which has already seen 31,000 scholarships awarded and an 80% rate of positive career outcomes among certificate recipients.

Transforming Public Service with Google Workspace

The second initiative focuses on equipping 445,000 public officers with Google Workspace tools, in collaboration with Jabatan Digital Negara (JDN). This deployment aims to enhance productivity within the public sector by leveraging Google Workspace’s cloud-native, AI-driven capabilities for better communication and collaboration across government agencies. This strategic move is expected to facilitate a more integrated, efficient approach to policy development, budget planning, and public consultations, enhancing the overall quality of public services.

The collaboration between Google and Malaysia is set to make significant strides in making digital skills more accessible, thereby preparing the Malaysian workforce for the demands of a burgeoning digital economy. By 2025, Malaysia’s digital economy is expected to contribute over 25% to the country’s total economic output, with the potential to unlock an additional MYR 87.8 billion in economic value by 2030 through digital skill expansion efforts.
