There are dozens of car clubs and car forums in Singapore today that aim to bring like-minded motorists together. Often, motorists who drive the same make and model would like to get connected to exchange ideas, tips and even participate in physical events, road trips, and have a great time together! However, there isn’t a single recognisable go-to platform for everyone to come together.
Homegrown motoring super-app Motorist aims to change all of that by creating a single, recognisable home for all car communities here through the launch of Car Group Chat – the latest feature on its app, hoping to create a vibrant and engaging community for its users. In Car Group Chat, each car model will have its own unique chat group. For example, Audi A4, Mazda 2, Toyota Corolla, and Ferrari* will each have their own group chat. Car Group Chat was soft launched in July (2021) and has already attracted about 20,000 users in over 400 group chats to date, which is an extremely exciting prospect.
Car Group Chat was officially launched this October and the goal for the first year (by end 2022) is to attract 100,000 members in 1000 group chats. From the 1000 group chats, Motorist aims to scale up at least 100 of these existing groups to achieve a super group status – a group consisting of at least 500 members of like-minded and helpful individuals to help build the community.
With the Motorist app being able to verify users through their vehicle license plate and the owner’s data, over 75 percent of their existing users are considered verified. This is crucial when it comes to the usage of this app as it allows consumers to know that they are communicating with genuine car owners or at least a proxy of the car owner.
Damian Sia, founder and CEO of Motorist said: “A long-standing issue with virtual communities is that you can never be sure if the people around you really know their stuff. We are excited to offer users the opportunity to verify if others are genuine car owners and hope that this will foster more meaningful discussions. Our long-term goal is to nurture tight-knit communities with leaders who are truly passionate about the vehicles they love.”
To achieve their long-term goal of nurturing these tight-knit communities, Motorist will be investing $250,000 for the group administrators to manage the car group chat communities (up to $5000 funding per car group chat community) that can be used to organise community bonding events such as road trips and giveaways.
The hunt for these top 50 chat groups will run from now till 31st December 2021 and the elected administrators can plan how they will use their funding for 2022. The process will repeat itself with newly elected group administrators the year after.
