Jumio Brings Selfie-First ID Checks To APAC

Jumio has launched its reusable identity solution, selfie.DONE, across the Asia-Pacific region, letting businesses recognise trusted users with just a selfie instead of a full document scan.

The expansion follows earlier rollouts in Latin America and North America. Jumio said deployments of selfie.DONE have driven a 20 per cent increase in verification completion rates, with up to 60 per cent of users completing verification without submitting a document.

A global identity graph powers the recognition

The system draws on Jumio’s global identity graph, which the company says holds more than 75 million legitimate and fraudulent identities and grows by about 85,000 identities a day. Instead of starting every onboarding flow with an ID document, businesses can instantly recognise enrolled, trusted users through the graph, while anyone the system cannot confidently identify, or who presents a risk, is still routed through full verification.

Jumio said the approach is meant to reduce onboarding friction for regulated businesses, including financial services firms, crypto exchanges, gaming platforms and sharing economy services, without loosening compliance requirements.

“The launch of selfie.DONE in APAC marks a pivotal milestone in our mission to redefine digital trust,” said Bala Kumar, President and Chief Product and Technology Officer at Jumio.

Kumar said the region’s mobile-first economy has driven demand for frictionless, high-assurance onboarding, and that the launch is meant to shift identity verification from a point-in-time check to continuous, contextual intelligence.

Early interest from Malaysian fintech

Malaysia-based digital lending platform Nimbura is among the companies evaluating the launch.

“In digital lending, reducing onboarding friction can have a meaningful impact on customer conversion, provided security and compliance remain uncompromised,” said Artjoms Borcovs, CEO for Asia at Nimbura.

Jumio said it has processed more than one billion identity transactions across over 200 countries and territories, and operates offices across North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
