Josephine Teo Named to AI for Good Commission

Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information, Josephine Teo, has joined the newly launched AI for Good Global Commission as a Founding Member, placing the city-state among more than 40 heads of state, industry chief executives and UN leaders shaping global AI governance.

The Commission was announced by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, Salesforce Chair and CEO Marc Benioff, and ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, who will serve as Co-Chairs and Vice-Chair respectively. It aims to define practical pathways to strengthen trust, expand access and unlock AI’s potential to address real-world challenges.

Enterprise and regional voices at the table

The Founding Member list draws heavily from enterprise technology and includes Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark, alongside chief executives from Amazon, Google and Alphabet, Microsoft and NVIDIA. Southeast Asia is represented through Grab co-founder and Group CEO Anthony Tan, giving the region a direct seat in a body otherwise dominated by heads of state and Fortune 500 leadership.

For Singapore, Teo’s inclusion extends a pattern of the city-state positioning itself in international AI governance forums, following its active role in prior ITU and UN digital cooperation initiatives.

Bridging the digital divide

The Commission builds on the ITU/UNESCO Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development and will focus on closing digital divides — an estimated 2.2 billion people remain offline, cutting a quarter of the world’s population off from AI advancements.

“No organization can single-handedly put AI at the service of all humanity,” said Bogdan-Martin. “It will take collective leadership and the combined expertise of partners from across sectors to ensure AI benefits all people, everywhere.”

The Commission holds its inaugural meeting during the ITU’s AI for Good Global Summit 2026, running 7-10 July in Geneva, alongside the first UN-mandated Global Dialogue on AI Governance and the WSIS Forum 2026.
