Salesforce and Anthropic Bring Claude Tag Into Slack as Multiplayer AI Agent

Salesforce and Anthropic have announced Claude Tag, bringing Anthropic’s Claude directly into Slack as a native team member — the latest step in Salesforce’s push to position Slack as the operating layer for enterprise agentic AI.

Claude as a Channel Colleague

Claude Tag gives Claude its own Slack account and credentials. It reads permitted channels, retains context across conversations, and connects to tools and codebases — including the ability to write or merge pull requests. Users tag @Claude into any thread; it works through the task in public view and tags the team back when done.

The model’s presence is shared across the channel rather than siloed to individual users. Anyone in the channel can see Claude’s output, build on it, or redirect it in real time. Tasks can also be scheduled to run asynchronously over hours or days, allowing teams to delegate work and focus elsewhere while Claude executes in the background.

An optional ambient mode takes this further — Claude proactively surfaces information it judges relevant, flags updates from connected data sources, and follows up on threads that have gone quiet without being resolved.

Slackbot and Claude Tag: A Dual-Agent Setup

Slack is positioning itself as the only platform where two distinct AI agents operate in tandem. Slackbot handles broad workforce needs, retaining memory and organisational knowledge across the entire company. Claude Tag sits alongside it as a specialised technical agent suited to developer workflows, channel-scoped requests, and complex task execution requiring deeper reasoning.

Anthropic reports that an internal version of Claude Tag already generates 65 per cent of code produced by its own product team, with adoption spreading beyond engineering to functions including support, product metrics, and bug analysis.

Enterprise Controls

Administrators control which tools, data sources, and channels each Claude instance can access. Memories and context remain scoped to their assigned channels — a Claude configured for sales work will not pass information to one set up for engineering, nor grant engineers access to sales data. Admins can cap monthly token spend at both the organisation and channel level, and review a full audit log of every completed task and who requested it.

“Slack is the only layer in the AI stack where teams work together. Bringing Claude Tag into Slack is about making AI multiplayer. Instead of a private back-and-forth, Claude Tag shows up in the open — in your channels, alongside your team — where it can see the real context of how your organisation works and make the whole company smarter in the process.” — Rob Seaman, EVP & GM, Slack

Claude Tag is available in beta today for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. It replaces the existing Claude in Slack integration, with a 30-day migration window for administrators. Anthropic is providing introductory launch credits to eligible organisations. The tool runs on Claude Opus 4.8.
