PepsiCo has announced the return of its Greenhouse Accelerator (GHAC) programme in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region for the third consecutive year, reaffirming its dedication to nurturing innovation in sustainability. Designed to provide mentorship, funding, and collaboration opportunities, the programme is on a mission to support startups tackling climate change, sustainable agriculture, and circular economy challenges.
The “so-what” factor? This isn’t just another corporate initiative. GHAC directly addresses a critical pain point for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in APAC—nearly 39% struggle to align sustainability goals with internal growth targets. By offering expert guidance and financial support, PepsiCo is equipping businesses with the tools to scale solutions that can drive measurable environmental progress.
A Proven Track Record of Success
Over the past two years, GHAC has demonstrated its impact by initiating 15 pilots across seven markets. Notably, Alterno, the 2024 programme winner, is revolutionising renewable energy with its low-cost thermal energy storage solutions. By integrating its sand battery technology into snack production processes, Alterno has the potential to reduce energy costs and emissions – proof that sustainable innovation can deliver real-world results.
Ashley Brown, PepsiCo APAC’s Chief Sustainability Officer, said: “PepsiCo’s Greenhouse Accelerator Programme is dedicated to empowering startups with the tools, resources, and mentorship required to drive meaningful change and scale innovations across our food systems. Over the past two years, the programme has successfully launched 15 startup pilots across APAC with PepsiCo and partners, and engaged with 95 venture capital firms and institutions, reinforcing our focus on fostering a robust sustainability ecosystem.”
More Than Just Grants
The 2025 GHAC will select 10 finalists, each receiving $20,000 USD to pilot their innovations. One outstanding startup will walk away with an additional $100,000 USD. Beyond funding, the programme offers invaluable mentorship from PepsiCo executives and industry experts, as well as collaborations with partners like GC Ventures and Circulate Capital.
Through partnerships with Suntory PepsiCo Beverage Thailand and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage, the programme will also continue supporting regional market expansion across Thailand and Vietnam.
What Startups Need to Know
GHAC is open to pre-revenue startups or those with sales up to $7 million USD, operating in APAC markets. Applicants must demonstrate proof of concept and scalability, with solutions targeting circular economy, climate tech, or sustainable agriculture. Finalists will undergo a rigorous selection process, with PepsiCo prioritising diversity, innovation, and alignment with its Pep+ Sustainability Strategy.
The programme runs from May to September 2025, offering a unique opportunity for startups to collaborate directly with a global leader in sustainable food systems.
Ashley summed up the initiative’s significance: “As sustainability rightly grows in importance for investors, consumers, and employees, accelerator programmes like GHAC play a crucial role in helping entrepreneurs meet these expectations and remain competitive.”
Why This Matters
As the climate crisis intensifies, global corporations like PepsiCo are stepping up to lead by example, demonstrating that sustainability is not just a buzzword – it’s a business imperative. By empowering early-stage startups, GHAC ensures that promising innovations can scale to make a tangible impact. For APAC’s budding entrepreneurs, this is an unparalleled opportunity to pilot game-changing solutions with the backing of an industry giant.
