Tutopiya, a Singapore-based education technology startup, launched their full service to the market to provide high-quality tutors to students six months after the soft launch. Tutopiya differs from other online tutoring platforms that merely connect students and tutors. The emphasis at Tutopiya is to offer highly qualified tutors who have been rigorously vetted & comprehensively trained to teach online. Tutopiya was incubated by Spaze Ventures, a leading Singapore based start-up incubator.

Tutopiya started from a student’s simple request to have online tuition at Marlborough College in Johor Bahru as he was boarded at the school. Having realized the options for teaching live online were limited, Nuha Ghouse Founder of Tutopiya embarked on a journey to provide students with the ultimate live online tuition solution, the best tutors combined with the best technology.

“There is a need for a service like Tutopiya because there is a gap in the market for high quality online one-to-one tutoring. Our service is uniquely customizable according to each student’s exact needs,” said Nuha Ghouse, the former Imperial College, London First Class Graduate.

“We offer students both extensive courses for PSLE, local GCE O & A Level syllabi and the IGCSE & IB syllabi offered in international schools across a wide range of subjects.”

Tutopiya has been successful in reaching 250 registered students in six months.  Students from the ages of 8-18 sign up for regular personalized live individual lessons with a tutor in the comfort of their homes. Tutopiya currently operates in eight markets including Singapore, China, UAE, Australia and the United States. Tutopiya has students from many prestigious international and local schools.

Nicky Moffat, parent of an IGCSE Grade 10 student shares, “We found that the online lessons have been both practical and great value for money without the need for travel. My son can study on his iPad from the comforts of our home. The tutors are wonderful with communication. My son is fully engaged during his online lessons and they also provide me with regular feedback on his progress and revision materials to help my son revise for his exams. Another bonus is that his previous classes are stored on his Tutopiya account, allowing him access to an additional revision aid.”

Adelene Kong, parent of a P4 local student said, “We really like the English teacher Tutopiya provided. She is amazing and passionate. We also really like that we don’t need to leave the house.”

Tutopiya’s strong focus on quality and curation over quantity ensures the highest quality of education and also provides the tutors with the ability to focus on the students rather than trying to promote their services and compete.

Tutopiya tutor Michelle Liew, a former MOE primary & secondary school teacher said, “Tutopiya offers an innovative platform for teaching and learning. I appreciate the ability to attach various media on the platform and use it to engage students. It provides for a very effective one-to-one experience”

Tutopiya differs from other mass-tutoring platforms with its thorough tutor vetting process and unique approach of training and delivering online tuition; making online tuition more effective and efficient. The vetting of tutors is the most difficult factor to master when hiring a tutor for your child. Tutopiya is Singapore’s only online tutoring platform which does this for you including language and communication skills tests, in-depth skill reviews, and online teaching competency tests. By hiring only the top teaching talent, Tutopiya is an exclusive platform that has passionate tutors who have excelled academically and have had experience teaching in the Ministry of Education schools and International schools.

“This generation is ready for a more effective and efficient way for home tuition. The timing is right as students are comfortable learning online and parents can easily choose to increase the frequency of tuition with shorter durations and there is no commuting required on both sides”, said Alex Ng, Managing Director, Spaze Ventures.

Tutopiya focuses on making individual home tuition affordable and convenient. Tutopiya provides a free introductory individual 60 mins lesson for every student who signs up so they can experience the technology and teaching. Tutopiya’s rates are affordable between S$15-45 per lesson and gives students the flexibility to select lesson frequency and duration. By providing services which tuition centres and home tutors cannot provide, Tutopiya has a unique proposition for 30-minute regular lessons ideal for homework help and practice which reinforces concepts.

Tutopiya provides highly advanced virtual classrooms which have been developed in-house to meet specific requirements that provide consistently high teaching standards. All lessons are recorded for student’s revision, parental monitoring and for tutors’ self-review. Tutopiya has built the platform to include new features that provide instantaneous homework help capabilities  – Simply take a photo, upload it and write on it with your tutor’s assistance.

Contemporary students are digital natives.Tutopiya understands that children raised in a digital world, require a media-rich learning environment, the best features and functionality to hold their attention. Online learning is a positive utilisation of screen time that enables responsible digital learners.

Tutopiya plans to focus on growth at home in Singapore, and overseas in the coming months with an emphasis on local and international students promoting the high education standards of Singapore to the rest of the world.
