Singapore Management University (SMU) has completed a university-wide overhaul of its enterprise systems by migrating to RISE with SAP, reporting early gains in employee adoption and process efficiency since going live in January 2026.

The migration, delivered with implementation partner ABeam Consulting Singapore, brought together SAP Cloud ERP, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Ariba, SAP Concur and several other cloud modules under a single digital foundation spanning finance, HR, procurement and travel. The move forms part of SMU’s SMU2030 Strategic Plan to simplify workflows and unify data across administrative and academic functions.

Early adoption and procurement gains

SMU reports 83% active adoption of SAP SuccessFactors and close to 3,900 workflows triggered since launch. On the procurement side, more than 10,000 suppliers have onboarded through self-service registration via SAP Ariba, with 4,700 purchase orders synchronised and supplier collaboration on SAP Business Network exceeding 2,000 onboarded vendors.

In finance operations, more than 3,600 claims have been processed through SAP Concur, alongside 3,700 payments and over 500 accounts receivable collections recorded within the first month.

“By modernizing our core platforms, harmonizing processes, and creating a more connected data environment, we have enhanced operational efficiency, strengthened decision-making capabilities, and created a scalable foundation for future innovation,” said Lau Kai Cheong, Chief Information Officer, SMU.

A broader push into Southeast Asia

The announcement comes ahead of the SAP NOW AI Tour Southeast Asia 2026. Eileen Chua, Managing Director, SAP Singapore, said universities today are under pressure to deliver more integrated campus experiences while operating with greater agility and accountability, and that SMU’s unified cloud platform gives it a strong digital foundation for its SMU2030 ambitions.

SMU, established in 2000, becomes the latest Singapore institution of higher learning to complete a large-scale enterprise cloud migration as universities and public agencies increasingly modernise legacy administrative systems.
