Dataiku and Singapore Red Cross Deploy AI for Disaster Response

Dataiku has partnered with the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) to apply AI to humanitarian operations across Southeast Asia, delivering measurable improvements in disaster surveillance and disease outbreak forecasting.

The collaboration is conducted under Dataiku’s AI-for-Good Program, which provides non-profit organisations with free access to its AI platform alongside pro bono support from Dataiku data scientists and engineers. Singapore Red Cross’s Humanitarian Innovation and Technology (HIT) team has been the primary beneficiary of the arrangement.

Automating Disaster Surveillance Across SEA

Prior to the engagement, Singapore Red Cross relied on highly manual processes to collect, clean, and consolidate data on natural and man-made disasters across the region. The process was labour-intensive and prone to inconsistencies in data formats.

Using Dataiku’s platform, Singapore Red Cross automated this surveillance workflow, achieving improvements in speed, accuracy, and data quality. The shift also enabled the organisation to incorporate additional contextual data streams — including climate trends and weather patterns — that were previously too complex to integrate at scale.

Forecasting Leptospirosis Outbreaks in Thailand

A second use case focused on leptospirosis, a waterborne disease endemic in Thailand. By applying machine learning models to weather and environmental data, Singapore Red Cross developed a more accurate outbreak forecasting capability. The models support early intervention measures including resource planning for vulnerable communities, enabling data-driven responses ahead of peak outbreak periods.

“Across Asia Pacific, the impact of disasters and public health crises is intensifying, and the difference between reacting and anticipating can mean thousands of lives affected,” said Andrew Boyd, SVP Asia Pacific and Japan at Dataiku. “When AI is placed in the hands of teams on the ground, it becomes a force multiplier — enabling faster decisions, better coordination, and ultimately more resilient communities.”

Broader Program Context

Dataiku launched its AI-for-Good Program in 2019. The global initiative has supported non-profit organisations across areas including food distribution, education access, and environmental initiatives. The Singapore Red Cross engagement represents an expansion of the program’s footprint in Southeast Asia, with the HIT team positioned to develop further AI use cases as the collaboration matures.

Nur Hafiza AB Mutalif, Assistant Head of International Affairs at Singapore Red Cross, noted that the collaboration enables the organisation to “turn data into timely, targeted action, ensuring that resources reach the right people at the right moment.”
