Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia’s national flag carrier, is modernising its core enterprise systems through RISE with SAP, integrating finance, procurement, supply chain and customer operations on SAP Cloud ERP Private — marking a significant milestone in the airline’s ongoing digital transformation.
The airline selected SAP‘s guided transformation programme to replace fragmented legacy systems with a unified, cloud-based ERP foundation. The deployment runs on a private managed cloud environment, providing what both parties describe as a secure, scalable and resilient infrastructure while reducing IT complexity across the organisation.
Streamlining Operations Ahead of Fleet Recovery
The transformation introduces SAP Fiori-based digital user experiences, enabling role-based access and intuitive workflows across Garuda Indonesia’s workforce. Critical back-office functions — including record-to-report processes — will be streamlined through embedded analytics and automation, with improved visibility into operational performance.
“This collaboration with SAP forms a key part of our effort to strengthen business processes through digital transformation,” said Thomas Oentoro, Deputy CEO of Garuda Indonesia. “By modernising our enterprise core, we are building a more connected, agile, and disciplined organisation, better equipped to manage costs and respond to a dynamic operating environment.”
AI-Driven Automation on the Horizon
SAP said the modernisation positions Garuda Indonesia to eventually advance toward a more autonomous enterprise model, where AI-driven automation could support more adaptive operations across the airline’s network. The transformation will also support improvements to maintenance and asset management as the airline continues restoring fleet readiness and scaling capacity.
“As airlines navigate growing operational complexity and rising customer expectations, a modern digital core is essential,” said Sianto Wongjoyo, Managing Director, SAP Indonesia. “By adopting SAP Cloud ERP Private through the RISE with SAP journey, Garuda Indonesia is building a strong foundation to streamline operations and enhance transparency.”
Garuda Indonesia serves at least 36 domestic destinations and 15 international routes, and is a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance. The RISE with SAP engagement reflects a broader wave of large-scale ERP cloud migrations among Southeast Asia’s national carriers and state-linked enterprises as they look to consolidate digital infrastructure post-pandemic.
