Synology Launches AI Advisor with Self-Hosted LLM for Data Sovereignty

Synology has officially launched AI Advisor, an intelligent assistant embedded on its website that provides technical guidance, product recommendations, and configuration support, powered by a self-hosted large language model that operates without sharing data with third-party AI providers.

The launch was announced to Singapore and Malaysia media by Synology’s regional marketing team, reflecting the company’s focus on these markets as early adopters of its NAS and enterprise storage platforms.

Sovereignty by design

Unlike AI assistants built on top of public cloud AI APIs, Synology’s AI Advisor runs on infrastructure fully controlled by Synology, with no external model calls. The company says it will migrate the service to dedicated Synology-owned infrastructure later in 2026, at which point it will guarantee 100% data residency, meaning no user query context leaves the Synology ecosystem.

AI Advisor integrates over a decade of Synology’s AI expertise. With an agent-as-tool design, dynamic knowledge injection, context optimization, and a continuous evaluation pipeline, AI Advisor delivers accurate, high-quality responses and continuously refines itself. – Steven Liang, Manager of the Generative AI Application Group, Synology

The sovereignty positioning is a deliberate differentiator for Synology, which has built its enterprise reputation on the premise that businesses should control their own data, the same principle it applies to NAS storage now extended to AI-assisted customer support.

From question to configuration in fewer steps

AI Advisor integrates with Synology’s NAS Selector and NVR Selector tools, guiding users through product sizing and recommendation workflows tailored to their deployment requirements. The assistant can direct users to relevant support articles, firmware downloads, or configuration guides based on query intent and context, reducing the steps between identifying a need and resolving it.

The tool is available now on Synology’s official website. The company says the AI capabilities developed for AI Advisor will be extended across its broader product lineup, as part of what it describes as a vision for secure, intuitive enterprise solutions.
