Roblox is introducing two new age-based account experiences — Roblox Kids for users aged 5 to 8, and Roblox Select for users aged 9 to 15 — designed to align content access and parental controls with each user’s developmental stage.
The update marks a structural shift in how the platform governs younger user experiences, moving from a broadly tiered system to one that automatically transitions children between account types as they age. The changes apply globally, including across Southeast Asia and the broader APAC region.
Stricter content governance for under-16s

Central to the update is a continuous content selection process for games accessible to users under 16. Roblox said this involves developer verification, enhanced content evaluation, and tighter restrictions on mature content. Parents will also gain expanded controls over content ratings, communication settings, screen time, and in-app spending, alongside greater transparency into their child’s social interactions.
“With the launch of Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, we are fundamentally shifting how games are discovered on our platform. Safety isn’t a static feature — it’s a journey that evolves as a child grows.” — Matt Kaufman, Chief Safety Officer, Roblox
Teen Council Asia to bring regional youth voices on safety
In a parallel initiative, Roblox has opened applications for its first Teen Council Asia, bringing together young users from across the region to collaborate on online safety and digital wellbeing programmes. The council reflects a broader industry push to incorporate youth perspectives into platform governance as regulators in multiple markets tighten scrutiny of children’s digital safety.
