vivo has released a new mid-range device, the vivo V50 Lite 5G. During my two weeks of testing, one question lingered in my mind – who is this phone for? Well, I finally have the answer.
Judging the Phone by Its Cover
The V50 Lite 5G looks premium, with its sleek 7.79mm profile, nature-inspired colourways, and high-gloss frame. It features a 6.77-inch P-OLED display with an impressive 94.2% screen-to-body ratio, ideal for video binge-watching and social scrolling.
It comes in two colours – Titanium Gold and Phantom Black. While Titanium Gold screams class, it was the Phantom Black that caught my attention. A subtle purplish accent appears when light hits it. However, if you use a phone cover, this detail might not matter much. On that note, vivo does include a silicon cover in the box that match the colour scheme of the phone.

Under the Hood
The vivo V50 Lite 5G houses a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chip capable of handling multitasking and daily usage without issue. While it may not be a gaming powerhouse, its 120Hz AMOLED display and dual stereo speakers will likely tempt casual mobile gamers. Complementing this are 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
Cameras: Good, but Don’t Expect Too Much
The vivo V50 Lite 5G features two cameras at the back – a 50MP F1.79 Sony Ultra-High-Sensitivity Camera with a Sony IMX882 Sensor (offering 2x Professional Portraits), and an 8MP Ultra Wide-Angle camera. On the front, it houses a 32MP F2.45 selfie camera.
There’s also a third feature on the back. It’s not a camera, but an Aura Light Premium Lens. Paired with the IMX882 sensor, this ensures crisper low-light images.
The cameras deliver decent results both day and night. While they’re comparable to a good point-and-shoot camera, those looking for flagship-level image quality should look elsewhere.
Comes with AI Features
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a must-have in modern smartphones, and the vivo V50 Lite 5G doesn’t fall short. It includes practical AI features like AI SuperLink, which boosts network signal strength by up to 30%, Circle to Search with Google, AI Erase 2.0 (a handy image editing tool), and AI Photo Enhance. These offerings are welcome because they focus on useful, everyday features rather than flashy but impractical gimmicks.
Huge Battery and Fast Charging

The star of the show is undoubtedly the battery life. Despite its slim build, the vivo V50 Lite 5G packs a massive 6,500 mAh BlueVolt Battery. According to vivo, this ensures “longer-lasting performance in a sleek and compact form.”
In my testing, the phone easily lasted a couple of days with moderate use. For hardcore YouTube viewers and TikTok scrollers, vivo advertises up to 27 hours of YouTube playback or over 15 hours of TikTok usage.
Charging such a large battery might seem daunting, but the 90W FlashCharge technology is impressively fast. It charges the phone from 0% to 20% in just 7.5 minutes, with a full charge achievable in under an hour. However, using the phone while charging slows the process and causes slight warmth.
Verdict
The vivo V50 Lite 5G doesn’t try to be everything – and that’s its strength. It’s a mid-range device that stays true to its segment, avoiding overambitious features that could hurt the overall experience. It boasts excellent battery life and a durable build, with cameras quick enough to capture fleeting moments.
Although its chipset isn’t groundbreaking, it’s more than sufficient for most users—especially those who don’t need cutting-edge specifications. This includes students looking for their first smartphone.
Retailing for just S$499, the vivo V50 Lite 5G is certainly worth considering.
