VergeSense has unveiled a new occupancy sensor, Infinity, promising a radical shift in how organisations measure, manage and optimise their workspaces – without needing to replace the hardware for a decade.
The wireless sensor, launched on Thursday, is designed to operate for 10 years on a single battery and boasts a carbon footprint up to 25 times lower than conventional wired or so-called “battery-less” sensors. It comes at a time when companies are grappling with hybrid work patterns and seeking better ways to understand space utilisation.
“Infinity represents our boldest vision yet – one that brings together extraordinary efficiency, sustainability, and intelligence in a single device,” said Dan Ryan, CEO and Co-founder of VergeSense. “This sensor can live for over a decade, adapt to support evolving AI models, and give businesses the peace of mind that comes from future-proof insights about their spaces.”
Sustainability with smarts
Infinity is engineered to tick multiple boxes: long-term performance, environmental responsibility, and real-time intelligence. It leverages AI to detect not only people but also objects like laptops, backpacks, monitors and chairs – providing a clearer picture of how space is truly being used, even in the absence of human presence.
These features aim to support companies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals while eliminating the maintenance burden typically associated with occupancy sensors.
Smarter space awareness
Each sensor can monitor up to 1,000 square feet with 95% accuracy. Its AI features include:
- Passive Occupancy Detection: Captures signs of usage, such as personal belongings, when no one is visibly present.
- Real-Time Object Detection: Automatically updates space inventories when room configurations change.
- Live Floor Mapping: Tracks furniture movements or layout changes to maintain a digital replica of the workspace – essentially creating a live “digital twin.”
Quick deployment, zero wiring
Infinity’s wire-free setup allows organisations to avoid the high costs and delays of electrical installation. High-strength magnets let the sensor snap easily into place on ceilings, and the system operates over a secure, self-healing mesh network, eliminating the need for additional IoT infrastructure.
Available in black or white – with customisable finishes – Infinity blends seamlessly into most office interiors.
Ready for the future
With built-in compute power and an upgradeable AI core, Infinity is designed to grow alongside workplace needs. Its insights feed into VergeSense’s broader Occupancy Intelligence Platform, which integrates multiple data sources for a comprehensive view of how spaces are used.
