ESET Bolsters Business Cybersecurity with Ransomware Remediation Feature

As ransomware continues to emerge as one of the most destructive cyber threats facing businesses today, ESET has stepped up its defence offering with a major platform update. Central to this rollout is the new Ransomware Remediation (RR) feature, aimed at preventing long-term disruption caused by encryption-based attacks.

The feature is now available to customers using the ESET PROTECT Advanced tier and above at no extra cost. Unlike traditional backup systems that often rely on the Windows Volume Shadow Copy service – frequently targeted and disabled by attackers – ESET’s RR creates a secure, tamper-proof backup environment that allows automated file recovery.

“Ransomware attacks, in particular, continue to pose a serious threat as cybercriminals seek to undermine every layer of a business’s security,” said Parvinder Walia, President for Asia Pacific & Japan, ESET. “We’ve updated our portfolio with advanced features like ransomware remediation, which allow users to have the ability to recover critical files in the event of a ransomware attack.”

ESET’s RR works by creating protected file backups in a designated storage section on the device, which attackers cannot access, modify or delete. While it comes with some limitations – such as a per-file size limit of 30MB and the need for admins to filter key file types – it addresses one of the most common vulnerabilities in backup strategies during an active attack.

In addition to RR, the latest update enhances other components of ESET’s cybersecurity portfolio. ESET Cloud Office Security now includes anti-spoofing and homoglyph protection – both of which aim to block sophisticated phishing emails and spoofed domains that mimic legitimate ones to deceive users.

The ESET AI Advisor, a generative AI-based assistant designed to support cybersecurity analysts, also received performance improvements. It offers real-time threat analysis and is available as an add-on for customers on ESET PROTECT Enterprise and Elite plans.

The updates come amid a surge in ransomware sophistication, with threat actors now frequently targeting not only operational systems but also backup infrastructure, escalating both the cost and complexity of recovery.
