Singapore’s M1 Limited (M1), Vietnam’s VNPT Group, and SSI Solutions have entered into a strategic agreement to introduce 5G-powered solutions into Vietnam Maritime Corporation’s (VIMC) port operations. The collaboration seeks to enhance efficiency, automation, and digital transformation across the country’s maritime sector.
The three companies signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore 5G applications in port logistics, leveraging their respective strengths – M1’s expertise in maritime 5G solutions, VNPT’s network infrastructure, and SSI Solutions’ role in integrating the technology into Vietnam’s shipping industry.

Optimising Port Efficiency with 5G
The partnership will focus on deploying 5G-driven automation, with potential use cases including:
- Tele-remote control of port equipment, reducing reliance on on-site operators.
- Advanced automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems, improving logistics efficiency.
- Enhanced surveillance and monitoring, boosting security and operational oversight.
“VNPT highly appreciates the strengths and experience of SSI and M1 in consulting and deploying 5G for vertical industries, especially the seaport industry. We hope this cooperation will bring benefits to all parties and generate significant revenue from 5G technology,” said Nguyen Nam Long, Vice President of VNPT Group.
Building on Singapore’s 5G Maritime Success
M1 has been at the forefront of maritime 5G adoption in Singapore, where it has developed and deployed commercial 5G solutions to improve port efficiency.
“We have spent the last few years co-creating and introducing viable 5G-enabled commercial solutions to digitise Singapore’s maritime operations and make Maritime 5G a reality,” said Andrew Cheng, Chief, Enterprise Services at M1.
In 2022, M1 announced a multi-year initiative to establish nationwide 5G standalone (SA) offshore coverage in Singapore’s southern waters. Supported by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the project serves as a testbed for developing new maritime 5G use cases.
Cheng added, “This partnership marks a significant milestone in M1’s regional growth strategy. With the successes and learnings from our project in Singapore, we are now scaling across Asia and supporting the region’s digital aspirations.”
