Sony Unveils XYN Motion Studio: Game-Changer for Motion Capture Creators

Pulse Secure Extends Pulse Cares Program to Assist Global Shift to New Remote Workstyle and Digital Business Acceleration

In an era where creators are pushing the boundaries of immersive content, Sony has introduced the XYN Motion Studio – a groundbreaking solution that transforms the motion capture process. Announced as the first product under the new XYN™ (/zin/) brand, this PC application integrates with Sony’s mocopi® sensors to deliver an accessible, high-precision motion capture system, redefining how motion data is created and utilised.

Since its debut in 2023, mocopi has gained popularity among VTubers, VR users, and creators in game, film, and animation industries. Building on this success, XYN Motion Studio enhances precision through professional mode, enabling connections with 12 mocopi sensors instead of the standard six. This innovation promises greater accuracy while eliminating the need for costly, studio-based setups.

Why It Matters

Motion capture has traditionally been expensive and reliant on bulky equipment, creating significant barriers for independent creators and small studios. With the XYN Motion Studio, Sony democratises this technology by offering a solution that’s lightweight, portable, and budget-friendly – allowing creators to produce professional-grade content with minimal resources.

“Sony aims to liberate creators in the spatial content production field to eliminate any hurdles of time constraints and location through technology,” the company stated.

Revolutionary Features

The XYN Motion Studio app includes several cutting-edge features that streamline the motion capture process:

1. Professional Mode with 12 Sensors

Users can achieve unprecedented precision by connecting 12 mocopi sensors to a PC. This configuration captures data from the head, arms, legs, hands, and feet, improving the grounding and realism of motion avatars. A camera blending feature further enhances accuracy by combining sensor data with footage from a connected camera.

2. Motion Data Editing

The app enables users to edit motion data seamlessly, leveraging automatic motion interpolation (“tweening”) to create natural transitions between movements. This feature saves time and integrates easily with industry-standard digital creation tools.

3. Cloud-Based Tagging

Motion data uploaded to the cloud is automatically tagged with proprietary algorithms, enabling text-based searches. Preset motions for commonly used actions add further convenience.

Pricing and Availability

The XYN Motion Studio app will be available for Windows PCs from the Microsoft Store starting at the end of March 2025. Accessories such as the sensor data receiver and sensor bands will be exclusively sold on Sony Electronics.

The Bigger Picture

For creators working in virtual production, Sony’s XYN Motion Studio is a leap forward. Whether you’re an independent VTuber or an animation studio professional, this tool breaks down barriers, making motion capture technology more accessible than ever.

As the industry leans further into spatial content creation, Sony’s innovation empowers creators to tell stories without limits.
