The Tech Talent Assembly (TTAB), in collaboration with SG Enable, has launched the Tech4Good Programme to support individuals with disabilities in excelling within the technology sector. The programme was announced by Mr Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information and National Development, at the Tech Talent Assembly Awards & Dinner 2024 held at Carlton Hotel.
About the Tech4Good Programme
The Tech4Good Programme is designed to create a more inclusive workplace in the technology sector, focusing on two key objectives:
- Training and Placement: Equipping persons with disabilities (PWDs) with relevant skills to succeed in their careers in technology.
- Advisory Services: Guiding potential employers in creating accessible, inclusive workplaces.
By bridging the skills gap and fostering workplace inclusivity, the programme aims to empower individuals with disabilities while enabling businesses to leverage a diverse talent pool to drive innovation and growth.
Meeting the Demand for Skilled Tech Talent
As technology transforms industries, businesses are increasingly reliant on advanced solutions like AI, cloud computing, and data analytics. This creates significant opportunities for trained individuals, including those with disabilities, to fill critical roles in sectors such as healthcare, finance, and education.
The programme aligns with the demand for skilled IT professionals while addressing the pressing need for diversity in the workforce.
TTAB’s EXCO Co-opt member and Tech4Good Chapter lead, Mr Benjamin Mah, stated: “It’s crucial to address the misconceptions surrounding the abilities of individuals with disabilities. Embracing diversity is not just a moral imperative; it is a strategic advantage that drives progress and success.”
TTAB has partnered with experts such as Yeo Zhihan (SGTech), Eric Okumu (Korn Ferry), and Joshua Thomas (NMP & President of the Security Association of Singapore) to identify mentors and collaborate with companies to create roles for PWDs.
To further support organisations, TTAB will:
- Identify Transformation Projects: Through the Operation & Technology Roadmap (OTR).
- Access the Company Training Committee (CTC) Grant: Co-funding up to 70% of project costs to enhance productivity and support inclusive workplace transformation.
These initiatives ensure companies can redesign jobs and adopt technologies that foster inclusivity.
