ST Engineering Partners with Republic and Singapore Polytechnics to Advance Cybersecurity Education with Generative AI Integration

ST Engineering announced new partnerships with Republic Polytechnic (RP) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) to enhance education and training in the emerging field of Generative AI (GenAI) for cybersecurity. These collaborations will equip over 600 students from both institutions with industry-relevant skills, providing hands-on experience, access to leading-edge cybersecurity tools, and opportunities for professional mentorship and internships.

The initiative, led by ST Engineering’s Cyber business, focuses on preparing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals to address evolving cyber threats, which are increasingly powered by AI-driven techniques.

Addressing the Growing Demand for Cybersecurity Talent

As cyber attackers adopt advanced AI technologies, there is an increasing need for skilled professionals who can leverage GenAI to enhance Security Operations Centre (SOC) capabilities. “GenAI for cybersecurity is an emerging field that has much growth potential,” said Goh Eng Choon, President, Cyber, ST Engineering. “Through our partnerships with Republic Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic, we are cultivating the next generation of cybersecurity talents, equipping them with critical skills that will prepare them for the demands of the industry and bridge the cybersecurity talent gap.”

These partnerships add to ST Engineering’s ongoing efforts to advance cybersecurity education, building a robust pipeline of talent to meet Singapore’s growing cybersecurity needs.

ST Engineering will work closely with RP and SP to co-develop curricula tailored to the specific needs of each polytechnic, integrating GenAI and cybersecurity-focused training. The company’s proprietary AI tool, Cyber Co-Pilot, will be introduced into both institutions’ curricula as a standard SOC tool, offering students real-world experience in threat detection and response.

Students will also benefit from internships and short-term placements at ST Engineering, where they can apply their skills in live cybersecurity environments. This practical exposure is designed to prepare students for careers in a fast-evolving field that demands both theoretical knowledge and hands-on expertise.

Wong Wai Ling, Director of RP’s School of Infocomm, emphasized the importance of such partnerships in shaping future cybersecurity leaders. “This partnership with ST Engineering will further propel our goal to advance education and training in the field of cybersecurity, as we shape the next generation of cybersecurity leaders.”

Establishing a GenAI for Cybersecurity Innovation Centre

A key component of the partnership with RP is the creation of a GenAI for cybersecurity innovation centre, designed to promote dynamic, scenario-based training. The centre will provide opportunities for RP students to engage with AI-based cybersecurity tools, allowing them to develop projects and strengthen their skills in real-world applications. The centre will also support industry training, helping the broader cybersecurity community adopt AI-based solutions.

“SP is committed to providing our students with the most relevant education to prepare them for the challenges of the modern workforce,” said Liew Chin Chuan, Deputy Senior Director of SP’s Computing, Chemical & Life Sciences Cluster. “Our collaboration with ST Engineering enables us to integrate their innovative solutions into our curriculum, offering students valuable hands-on experience in Generative AI and cybersecurity.”

The partnerships with RP and SP build on ST Engineering’s existing collaborations with educational institutions in Singapore. Since 2021, the company’s Cyber business has worked with Temasek Polytechnic and ITE College Central to equip students with practical cybersecurity skills, training over 600 students to date. Through these partnerships, ST Engineering continues to strengthen Singapore’s cybersecurity readiness by fostering the next generation of talent in the field.
