Bumble Inc. has introduced its latest innovation, Deception DetectorTM, in celebration of Safer Internet Day. This new feature leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify and block spam, scam, and fake profiles, continuing Bumble’s decade-long commitment to fostering kind, safe, and authentic connections.

Deception DetectorTM employs advanced machine learning to preemptively assess the authenticity of profiles on Bumble’s platforms, significantly reducing the presence of deceptive accounts. In the first two months since its implementation, member reports of spam, scam, and fake accounts have dropped by 45%.

Research conducted by Bumble reveals that fake profiles and the risk of scams are the top concerns for online dating users globally. Nearly half (46%) of women surveyed expressed anxiety over the authenticity of their matches, a concern that can hinder meaningful connections.

Lidiane Jones, CEO of Bumble Inc., stated, “In recent years, the online landscape has evolved significantly and we see a growing concern about authenticity. Bumble Inc. was founded with the aim to build equitable relationships and empower women to make the first move, and Deception DetectorTM is our latest innovation as part of our ongoing commitment to our community to help ensure that connections made on our apps are genuine.”

Jones emphasized the importance of trust in the AI era, particularly for women’s online experiences. “We are being thoughtful about how to best use new models to reduce the anxiety of making connections and support our community, with AI standing as a main area of focus,” she added.

The Deception DetectorTM, which automatically blocks 95% of identified spam and scam profiles, complements other AI-driven features previously launched by Bumble. These include Private Detector, which blurs lewd nude images, and AI-powered photo verification. Bumble has also introduced Best Bees, an AI algorithm enhancing member curation.
