Leica Camera AG has launched a limited edition of its legendary Summilux-M 35 f/1.4 lens, rekindling the spirit of the original that debuted in 1961 as the world’s fastest wide-angle lens. This special edition, available exclusively in selected Leica Stores worldwide, retains the high-quality imaging performance of the current series model while introducing a distinct aesthetic that pays homage to its historic roots.
The reissued lens sports a sleek black anodized finish complemented by a distinctive silver stainless steel front ring, affectionately known as the “Steel Rim.” The front engraving proudly displays “LEITZ WETZLAR,” a tribute to the lens’s heritage. A notable feature is the black painted brass focus lock button, designed to develop a unique patina over time, adding character with use.

Leica has replicated the original’s design nuances in this edition. The focus ring engravings have been carefully adjusted to match the first edition, and the arrangement of the feet and meter scale echoes the original’s color scheme, albeit in a reversed layout when compared to the silver series lens.
The Summilux-M 35 f/1.4 is celebrated for its exceptional bokeh effect, earning it the moniker “True King of Bokeh.” Its capability to produce images with a unique, soft focus and almost magical quality at open aperture sets it apart. When stopped down to f/2.8, it delivers sharp, distortion-free images that satisfy even the modern photographer’s demands for image quality.
Included with the lens are special packaging inspired by its vintage origins, a lens container, a clip-on lens hood, and an additional round lens hood with an E46 thread for filter attachment. This limited edition lens, complete with an engraved special serial number, is priced at S$15,300.00.
