Singapore-based furniture brand STAR Living is set to unveil its new corporate headquarters and warehouse in Sungei Kadut on October 24, 2023. The 7-storey building, spanning an impressive 19,050 sqm, is poised to be Singapore’s most advanced furniture warehouse, integrating Internet of Things (IoT) technology to optimize logistics operations.

Inauguration with Minister of State: Ms. Low Yen Ling

The inauguration ceremony will be graced by Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Culture, Community, and Youth, Ms. Low Yen Ling. The event will showcase STAR Living’s corporate HQ office, automated warehouse, and furniture showrooms, highlighting its commitment to innovation and modernization in the furniture industry.

A Legacy of Innovation: STAR Living’s Journey

Founded in 1981, STAR Living operates under the umbrella of STAR International, an urban household furniture company. It offers a diverse range of household products across seven exclusive brands. The company manages the entire furniture lifecycle, from design and manufacturing to retailing and exporting.

IoT Revolutionizes Operational Efficiency

The new furniture warehouse is set to redefine industry standards by incorporating IoT-driven technologies. This includes a Warehouse Management System (WMS) equipped with Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Mobile Shuttles. These innovations will streamline operational flow, increasing efficiency and storage capacity by an impressive 50%.

Sarah Ler, Director of EnterpriseSG Retail and Design division, commended STAR Living’s initiative, stating, “STAR Living’s new state-of-the-art HQ and smart warehouse is an example of how companies can embrace innovation and digitalisation to overcome manpower and space challenges, and boost their competitiveness by streamlining operations and upskilling workers. We look forward to supporting STAR Living as it continues on its journey to grow and scale.”

IoT Integration Enhances Productivity and Safety

The incorporation of AGVs and Mobile Shuttles significantly reduces aisle space, facilitating the seamless movement of furniture items throughout the facility round-the-clock. The computerized warehouse management system offers real-time updates for inventory tracking with an astounding accuracy rate of 99.9%, boosting overall productivity by over 40%.

“Managing a furniture warehouse of such a large scale requires heavy manpower and labour. Most of our workers end up doing mundane tasks; sorting, transporting and finding products. The AGVs can effectively do these tasks with guided assistance, cutting the time from order to delivery to the shortest possible time…our warehouse management system even improves visibility over products, saving 80% of the time it would take to locate a product manually.”

Green Practices and Business Excellence

STAR’s new facility, with a prestigious gold GreenMark award, showcases its commitment to environmental sustainability. The building features fast-charging EV ports and provisions for solar panel installations, demonstrating that conventional industries can adopt greener practices without compromising efficiency.
