M1 has announced the launch of its True 5G Eco SIM, coinciding with World Environment Day. The new True 5G Eco SIM is being offered to new customers signing up for M1’s Bespoke plans, demonstrating the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
In a bid to minimize harm to the environment, M1 has introduced the True 5G Eco SIM in a half-sized card format, which is made from recycled resources. This eco-friendly initiative aims to replace the current SIM cards that are manufactured using Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) materials. By halving the size of the SIM card holder and incorporating recyclable materials, M1 anticipates a 50% reduction in plastic usage and a 30% decrease in the carbon footprint associated with SIM card production.
The True 5G Eco SIM offers several key advantages:
- Reducing the use of natural resources: The smaller size and the use of recycled materials help curtail the consumption of natural resources.
- Keeping CO2 emissions in check: The adoption of fewer materials and recycled resources significantly diminishes CO2 emissions.
- Limiting waste: The reduced card size has a substantial impact on overall plastic waste reduction.
- Lower logistics costs: The decreased volume and weight of the True 5G Eco SIM result in cost savings for transportation and a reduced carbon footprint from a logistics perspective.

In addition to the True 5G Eco SIM, M1 is among the first providers in Singapore to offer 5G eSIMs. These digital SIM cards allow users to activate a mobile plan with M1 without the need for a physical nano-SIM.
M1 has also intensified its efforts to combat electronic waste (e-waste) by encouraging customers to trade in their old devices at M1 stores. The company repurposes these devices for new ones or sends them to recycling partners to recover precious materials and support sustainable practices.
Mr. Manjot Singh Mann, the Chief Executive Officer of M1, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, aligning with Keppel’s Vision 2030 strategy. He stated, “The introduction of the True 5G Eco SIM addresses the issue of plastic waste in the telecommunications industry stemming from SIM card production. We will continue to integrate responsible practices into our operations as we strive for a connected, sustainable future.”
Starting from 5 June, True 5G Eco SIMs will be available at all M1 shops, enabling customers to enjoy the benefits of sustainable mobile connectivity.
