Nikon Singapore has unveiled the Z 8, a compact and portable mirrorless camera designed for professionals and creators alike. The Z 8 condenses the advanced features of the flagship Nikon Z 9 into a lightweight body, while maintaining reliability and uncompromised functionality. The camera offers multiple long-duration video recording options and formats, enhanced AF detection capabilities, and the inclusion of the new HEIF format support for still images. It also enables creators to fully immerse themselves in achieving their creative vision.
According to John Young, General Manager of International Marketing, International Business Division of the Imaging Group, Nikon Singapore Pte. Ltd, “The Z 8 was engineered to be the always-ready partner for professionals and creators alike. Powerful, yet compact, the Z 8 provides stability during handheld shooting as well as the flexibility of a one-person operation when it comes to videos.”

The new Z 8 is an agile camera, weighing approximately 910g, and is compatible with an array of videography accessories, including the MC-N10 Remote Grip and wireless video transmitters, and v-mount batteries, significantly reducing the amount of equipment needed during shoots and the set-up time.
With the camera’s High-Res Zoom, users can zoom up to the angle of view equivalent to 2x of the focal length, even with a prime lens attached, during 4K UHD (30p/25p/24p) and Full HD video recording in full-frame. The Z 8 can record up to approximately 125 min. in 4K UHD/60p and up to approximately 90 min. in 8K UHD/30p. The camera also comes with a 4-axis vertical/horizontal tilting monitor that includes vertical display orientation, making it easy to capture nimble and comfortable shooting angles.

The Z 8 offers a wide variety of video formats from 12-bit N-RAW and ProRes RAW, to 10-bit Apple ProRes 422 HQ and 8 bit-H265 SDR in-camera recording, making it suitable for both beginners and full-fledged professionals. Users can create videos in high-definition 4K UHD/60p, 50p, and 30p oversampled from 8K, providing the opportunity to shoot in high-definition video that can be enjoyed on a large screen.
The camera’s Pre-Release Capture function ensures that decisive moments are easily caught on camera, while the autofocus system automatically detects approximately 3% of the human face size in the frame. The AF identifies and tracks up to nine different kinds of subjects, including the addition of the new Airplane mode to the AF subject detection menu, which provides a more stable detection, including in low-light situations or with a cluttered background.

The Z 8’s skin softening feature auto-detects human faces and softens the skin while keeping eyes and hair sharp. Users can also apply the portrait impression balance effect, which enhances portraits in-camera by adjusting the hue and brightness. With its intuitive user interface, the camera’s color temperature can be adjusted, and its enhanced auto white balance (AWB) performance helps to reduce color cast.
Nikon has also introduced Sereebo P series, a new environmental technology, to the camera’s robustness, making it resistant to high temperatures, humidity, and dust.
The Z 8 will be available in Singapore, but the pricing and the exact date of availability remain to be advised.
