What you need to know about YouTube Shorts

YouTube Shorts has finally reached the shores of more than 100 countries, including Singapore. Yay! But what exactly is YouTube Shorts?

YouTube Shorts is a short-form video content creation feature on YouTube that you can leverage to produce complementary content for your longer video content or standalone creative and catchy video content for your audience. It differs from one creator to another.

How does it work?

Similar to Instagram Stories and TikTok, you can:

  • record videos of up to 60 seconds;
  • add text and automatically add captions to your video;
  • import video clips from your phone gallery; and
  • add colour filters for basic colour corrections.

You can also introduce sample audio from other YouTube videos and add them to your Shorts.

Intended content creators

It is for everyone although you might feel a little lost at first. You will be surprised that since its launched in initial markets alone, Shorts content has surpassed more than 6.5 billion daily views.

Monetising Shorts

Unlike some social media platforms, which until now, I still do not understand how they reward their content creators, YouTube allows you to monetise your video. Your monetary reward will also come from the YouTube Shorts Fund, which is a $100 million fund ready to disperse between this year and next.

Not on it yet? Why not try it out now before it’s filled with Shorts!

Personally, I still prefer long-form videos. What do I know? I’m 300 years old.
