GlobalFoundries (Nasdaq: GFS) has opened its Advanced Facilities Control Centre (AFCC) at its Singapore site, an AI-enabled command centre developed in partnership with Siemens that integrates facilities operations and data across the chipmaker’s global manufacturing footprint.
The centre marks GlobalFoundries’ first rollout of the capability, reinforcing Singapore’s role as a key manufacturing and operations hub for the company. Five fab-specific control centres across GF’s Singapore campus will be consolidated into a single command centre in the first phase, combining facilities data and operational metrics with AI-driven tools such as predictive maintenance.

Predictive maintenance and autonomous patrols
The AFCC is designed to help engineers detect potential equipment issues earlier, accelerate troubleshooting, identify root causes more quickly and prioritise the highest-impact actions. Autonomous robots equipped with thermal imaging, gas detection, vibration acoustics and other anomaly-sensing capabilities will conduct routine patrols and visual inspections across the fab floor and campus, transmitting real-time data to the centre for analysis and response.
Upon full global deployment, the system is expected to integrate more than one million critical data points from facilities equipment across GF’s global manufacturing network, allowing teams to benchmark operational performance across sites, optimise resources and reduce energy consumption and emissions.
“Reliable facilities infrastructure is foundational to semiconductor manufacturing, and the AFCC represents an important step in building a more connected, intelligent and resilient global manufacturing network,” said Pradip Singh, Chief Manufacturing Officer at GlobalFoundries.
Yew Kong Tan, Senior Vice President and General Manager, APAC Manufacturing and Singapore Site at GlobalFoundries, said Singapore’s strong digital foundation and government support made it the natural choice for the first deployment, adding that the shift would let facilities engineers focus on higher-value diagnostics and deepen their technical expertise.
Singapore’s role in advanced manufacturing
Isabel Chong, Managing Director, Digital Industries ASEAN at Siemens, said the collaboration combined GF’s semiconductor manufacturing expertise with Siemens’ industrial digitalisation capabilities to build the next generation of global facilities operations.
“The Advanced Facilities Control Centre reflects Singapore’s collaborative approach to manufacturing excellence and innovation, bringing together industry and technology partners to develop new digital solutions within our advanced manufacturing ecosystem. This also creates opportunities for our engineers to deepen their digital capabilities and work with cutting-edge technologies,” said Cindy Koh, Executive Vice President, Singapore Economic Development Board.
GlobalFoundries operates manufacturing facilities across the United States, Europe and Asia, supplying semiconductors for the automotive, aerospace and defence, data centre, smart mobile device and Internet of Things markets.
