Swap Mobile Launches in Singapore With Flexible Plans

Swap Mobile, a new digital-first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) running on StarHub’s nationwide 4G and 5G network, is now live online in Singapore, with its official launch and retail rollout set for 19 October.

The service bundles phone, plan and protection into a single flexible package, built around a brand idea it calls “Maybe Leads to More”: rather than locking customers into a fixed plan and device cycle, Swap Mobile lets them adjust their data allowance every month and swap their phone every six months.

Six-month device swaps, slider-based plans

Under its 24-month Device Subscription, customers can access selected flagship and mid-range smartphones with no upfront cost and request an upgrade every six months by returning their existing device and starting a new subscription term — with Swap Mobile retaining ownership of the device throughout.

Standalone SIM-only customers get the same flexibility without a device: a slider-based interface lets them raise or lower their data, talk time and SMS allowances every month with no long-term commitment. Both 4G and 5G plans include APAC data roaming — 10GB and 25GB respectively — with 5G plans adding a further 10GB of global roaming data.

SIM-only plans start from S$10 a month for 4G and S$15 a month for 5G, with a limited-time launch promotion of S$1 a month for the first three months. Device Subscriptions are priced from S$29.90 to S$119.90 a month depending on the device, discounted to S$5.90 to S$105.90 a month for the first three months of the promotion.

Every Device Subscription includes Swap Protect Pro at no extra cost, covering accidental damage, attended theft and screen cracks, while standalone SIM customers receive Screen Crack Protect — one claim a year of up to S$250 for repairs at brand-authorised service centres.

“Mobile services have traditionally been built around fixed plans and upgrade cycles. Consumers do not live that way anymore. Their needs, usage patterns and device preferences evolve over time, so we wanted to bring phone, plan and protection together in a way that gives them greater flexibility to adapt,” said Andy Tan, managing director of Swap Asia Group.

Looking beyond the data price war

The launch arrives in one of the world’s most mature and competitive telecommunications markets, where Swap Mobile argues that data has become commoditised and differentiation must come from elsewhere.

“Having spent many years in Singapore’s telecommunications industry, including more than six years with StarHub, I have seen how mature and sophisticated this market has become. Consumers here are already highly connected and digitally confident. Singapore consumers don’t need another provider simply competing to give them more gigabytes. The market has moved beyond that,” said Wong Peng Yew, executive director of Swap Telecommunications.

StarHub, which supplies the network behind Swap Mobile, framed the partnership as an extension of its MVNO strategy. “Swap Mobile brings a distinctive proposition by putting device protection at the heart of the mobile service proposition, backed by the quality and reliability of StarHub’s network,” said Vidur Rattan, chief of consumer business at StarHub.

Part of a wider device ecosystem play

Swap Mobile is part of Swap Asia Group, a regional mobile lifecycle and electronic device ecosystem company with more than two decades of experience across device distribution, supply chain services, trade-in solutions, device protection and financing, and operations spanning Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan.

Following its Singapore launch, the company said it plans to expand into travel connectivity, streaming and entertainment services, and insurance offerings, working towards a single subscription ecosystem covering consumers’ broader mobile needs.
