NetApp has added new hybrid multicloud capabilities designed to give enterprises consistent operations across on-premises and cloud environments, with autonomous controls aimed at sovereignty, governance and cost efficiency.
NetApp said enterprise applications and AI workloads increasingly span on-premises environments, public clouds, sovereign regions and emerging AI factory architectures. Traditional manual administration, fragmented tooling and disconnected data strategies can slow innovation, increase operational risk and make it harder to control costs as data grows.
“Your storage architecture dictates how every workload runs,” said Sandeep Singh, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Platform at NetApp. “Customers should not have to choose between the performance and control of on-premises infrastructure and the flexibility of cloud. With these new hybrid multi-cloud capabilities, NetApp is helping enterprises break down the borders between environments, operate with greater autonomy, and put efficiency, sovereignty, and control at the center of their data strategy.”
Sovereignty and autonomous operations
NetApp Keystone Sovereign gives qualified European Economic Area customers data sovereignty controls that go beyond data location to cover residency, technical and regional considerations. NetApp Console Autonomous Operations replaces manual approval loops with outcome-based automation that can run in air-gapped environments, using AI-assisted operations with human oversight to help teams predict issues, resolve incidents faster and optimise capacity and cost.
NetApp Console Fleet Management lets customers manage their entire estate as a single entity, now available as a second Console delivery model installed directly in a customer’s own environment. A new AI ChatOps interface adds conversational, outcome-based automation for storage operations — intent-based provisioning, policy guardrails, AI-powered reporting and automated remediation — operating through an open large language model gateway so customers can use their own model while actions stay within defined storage classes and governance boundaries.
A broader partnership with Nutanix
NetApp is also expanding its work with Nutanix, combining NetApp ONTAP with Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure to give customers more flexibility in virtualised environments while protecting existing investments. The integration is scheduled for general availability this autumn.
“Enterprise IT leaders are under pressure to support AI-era workloads across increasingly distributed environments without compromising governance, cost control, or operational resilience,” said Dave McCarthy, Group Vice President, Cloud and Datacenters, Enterprise Infrastructure at IDC. “NetApp’s hybrid multi-cloud strategy addresses that challenge by bringing together autonomous operations, consistent data services, efficiency guarantees, and sovereignty-aware consumption models on a single platform.”
