Anker Innovations has announced the Anker soundcore AeroClip 2, an open-ear earbud that picks up the wearer’s voice through vocal cord vibrations as well as through the air. The aim is to keep calls clear in noisy places.

Two voice pickup units capture the vibrations, and Anker’s THUS AI chip cross-references them against the signal from four MEMS microphones in real time. Anker calls the result “Loud World, Clear You”.

Why open-ear earbuds struggle with calls

Open-ear earbuds never seal the ear, so the microphones hear the wearer’s voice and the surrounding noise through the same medium: air. Anker says that leaves filtering as the only option, and filtering gets worse as the environment gets louder. That is why call quality on open-ear designs has historically dropped in traffic, on public transport and in open-plan offices.

Six sensors, two sources of voice data

The AeroClip 2 uses a six-sensor hybrid array. Four high signal-to-noise ratio MEMS microphones are paired with two voice pickup units that register vibration travelling through the wearer’s body. Because that vibration starts at the vocal cords, Anker says it carries the voice and not the room.

Reading both streams at once has to happen on the earbud itself. Anker says the THUS chip delivers 4.6 GFLOPS, around 150 times the AI computing power of the previous generation.

THUS chip computes inside memory

Anker says conventional chips move data back and forth between memory and processor. In an earbud, that means more than 90 per cent of chip power goes on moving data before any calculation begins.

THUS embeds computation directly inside NOR Flash memory cells, so parameters no longer need to move. Anker says NOR Flash compute-in-memory takes up roughly one-sixth the space of SRAM alternatives, which suits space-constrained wearables.

Proven in an earlier earbud

The chip is not new. The Anker soundcore Liberty 5 Pro was the first earbud tuned to run THUS, and in April 2026 it earned Guinness World Records certification for the highest objectively measured speech quality score in TWS earbud history.

Anker says the AeroClip 2 earned the title of World’s Clearest Open-Ear Clip-On Earbuds for Calls in September 2026.
