Tencent Cloud, U Mobile Team Up On 5G AI

Tencent Cloud has signed a memorandum of understanding with U Mobile to develop 5G and AI solutions for enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses in Malaysia.

The partnership, announced in Kuala Lumpur on 14 September, combines Tencent Cloud’s AI and cloud capabilities with U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network and Enterprise Innovation Platform. It marks Tencent Cloud’s first official AI-focused partnership with a Malaysian telecommunications provider.

Testing AI applications for Malaysian enterprises

As a strategic partner of U Mobile’s Enterprise Innovation Platform, Tencent Cloud will work with the telco to identify and develop enterprise applications through a develop, test and demonstrate pathway. Solutions that succeed in this process could progress to pilot deployments and commercialisation.

The two companies plan to run workshops, demonstrations and innovation sessions involving businesses, startups, developers and academia, alongside an exchange of technical expertise in 5G, AI, system integration, security and enterprise deployment.

“We are excited to partner with U Mobile on this milestone collaboration, which marks Tencent Cloud’s first official AI-focused partnership with a Malaysian telecommunications provider,” said Poshu Yeung, Senior Vice President of Tencent Cloud and Head of Tencent Cloud International.

Yeung said the partnership aims to help enterprises, SMEs and developers build 5G and AI applications that address real-world business challenges while supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation.

Building on Malaysia’s newest 5G network

U Mobile, which brands itself as Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, has positioned ULTRA5G and its enterprise-grade network as the foundation for the collaboration.

“At U Mobile, we are focused on using our next-gen 5G network to enable innovation that delivers real value to businesses,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile.

Yuen said the Develop, Test and Demonstrate pathway would help turn promising ideas into practical solutions closer to real-world adoption.

Neither company disclosed the financial terms of the MOU or a timeline for the first pilot deployments.
