Commvault has expanded Microsoft Azure resource coverage for Cloud Rewind, its cloud application recovery platform, broadening protection threefold to now cover 62 per cent of enterprise-relevant Azure resource types available in the market.

Cloud Rewind continuously discovers cloud resources, maps application dependencies, and orchestrates the recovery and rebuild of cloud applications — including the infrastructure, configurations and dependencies they need to operate — from a single platform. According to Absolute Security’s 2026 State of Enterprise Cyber Resilience report, 57 per cent of enterprises said recovery from a cyberattack took more than 4.5 days on average.

Restoring operational environments, not just files

Organisations can now validate recovery readiness through application recovery simulations, including within isolated, air-gapped environments, before an incident occurs. The expansion also adds two capabilities: Protection Groups, which unite application data and cloud configuration into a single air-gapped recovery experience, and policy-based protection, which automatically enrols discovered resources by tag, region and type across multiple cloud environments through a single workflow.

Addressing increasingly complex recovery needs

Pranay Ahlawat, Chief Technology and AI Officer at Commvault, said modern applications depend on interconnected cloud services, infrastructure and configurations that must be recovered together, and that Cloud Rewind gives customers a unified experience within Commvault Cloud to increase confidence in their ability to recover following a cyberattack or outage.

Melinda Marks, Senior Research Director and Chief Analyst at Omdia, said many organisations only discover their recovery plan is incomplete after an incident has occurred, underscoring the need for restoration capabilities that span configurations, dependencies and multiple cloud platforms as applications grow more complex.

Cloud Rewind is available now as an add-on workload within Commvault Cloud, with pricing metered based on protected cloud resources. The expanded Azure protection is targeted for availability in the coming months.
