NTT DATA has launched NTT DATA AI for Insurance, an AI-native agentic solution designed to convert complex insurance workflows into governed, repeatable services. Powered by the NTT DATA AIVista platform, it combines configurable AI agents, insurance-specific data models, workflow orchestration and enterprise-grade governance across underwriting, claims and customer service.
The launch builds on findings from NTT DATA’s 2026 Global AI Report: A Playbook for AI Leaders in Insurance, which examines how leading insurers are connecting AI strategy to underwriting performance, claims outcomes, growth and governance.
Insurers Still Stuck in Pilot Mode
The report’s findings suggest a widening gap between AI leaders and laggards in the insurance sector. While 66.7% of insurance AI leaders prioritise front-office growth use cases, only 35.3% of laggards do the same. Among insurers with fully aligned AI strategies, 85.8% report a profit uplift of at least 5%, and 58.3% of leaders are rebuilding core systems with embedded AI, compared with just 6.5% of laggards.
- 66.7% of insurance AI leaders prioritise front-office growth use cases, versus 35.3% of laggards
- 86.7% of insurers apply AI across back- and mid-office operations
- 85.8% of insurers with fully aligned AI strategies report at least 5% profit uplift
- 67.4% of insurance AI leaders use centralised governance models to scale AI
- 58.3% of leaders are rebuilding core systems with embedded AI, against 6.5% of laggards
NTT DATA said the findings indicate that insurers achieving stronger results are moving beyond fragmented pilots and embedding AI into core workflows, supported by clear governance, executive accountability and measurable business objectives.
Governance Designed in from the Start
Paul Sommerin, Managing Director, FSI Advisory, APAC and India at NTT DATA, has pointed to governance as central to scaling agentic AI responsibly in insurance, with auditability, human oversight and regulatory controls needing to be designed in from the start rather than retrofitted. He has also flagged the risk of technology and model lock-in, arguing that open integration and flexible model routing will matter as insurers develop long-term AI strategies, and that human judgment remains essential in an AI-driven insurance model even as intelligent systems take on more of the workflow.
NTT DATA AI for Insurance targets underwriting, claims and customer service as the areas where agentic AI can deliver the greatest operational value, while keeping accountability for consequential decisions with human professionals.
