WhatsApp Adds iPad Sign-Up, CarPlay Overhaul, PDF Editing

WhatsApp has announced a New Feature Roundup that lets users sign up directly on iPad, redesigns its in-car experience for CarPlay and Android Auto, and adds in-app PDF editing, as the Meta-owned messaging app continues expanding across devices.

Signing up without a phone

Following the launch of WhatsApp for iPad last year, users can now create and register a WhatsApp account directly from the iPad app, without first needing to link the account to a phone. WhatsApp has also redesigned its in-car experience across both CarPlay and Android Auto, making it easier to listen to and reply to messages, make calls, access recent call history, and reach favourite contacts hands-free from the car’s display.

PDFs and music sharing

Users can now open PDF documents directly within WhatsApp on web and desktop without downloading them first. Powered by Adobe Acrobat, the documents can also be lightly edited with features such as highlighting and annotations. Separately, WhatsApp is enabling users to share music directly from Apple Music and Spotify to WhatsApp Status, letting friends see what they are listening to with just a few taps.

WhatsApp said the updates build on its ongoing efforts to make messaging simpler, more convenient, and better integrated across the devices and services people use every day. The new features are rolling out now.
