Fortinet Adds AI Governance to FortiEndpoint

Fortinet is expanding its unified endpoint platform, FortiEndpoint, with new capabilities designed to help organisations securely adopt AI, protect sensitive data and reduce risk, as autonomous agents and AI-enabled applications become embedded in everyday enterprise work.

The update brings AI visibility and control, native data security, endpoint risk scoring and AI-assisted operations into a single agent, console and licence, letting security teams govern AI usage, cut sensitive data exposure and enforce risk-aware access without adding another point product to already fragmented security stacks.

With FortiEndpoint, we are extending that strategy by consolidating security, secure access, data security, AI visibility, and assisted operations in a unified endpoint platform,” said Michael Xie, Founder, President and CTO at Fortinet.

Surfacing shadow AI use

FortiEndpoint gives organisations centralised visibility over sanctioned and unsanctioned AI application and agent usage across endpoints, including installed AI apps, agents and web-based tools. From a single view, security teams can identify which agents and applications are in use, monitor adoption and surface shadow AI and unauthorised tool usage, then apply granular guardrail policies to allow, restrict, monitor or block applications based on compliance and data security requirements.

Native data loss prevention for AI interactions

FortiEndpoint now natively supports data loss prevention (DLP) to secure AI interactions and reduce insider risk, automatically inspecting sensitive data exchanged with AI applications, agents and web services. Built-in user coaching provides real-time policy guidance to help employees understand acceptable AI usage without disrupting productivity, aimed at preventing leakage of personally identifiable information, intellectual property and financial data at the endpoint.

The platform also embeds FortiAI-Assist, which lets security teams use natural language to investigate events, visualise findings, generate investigation summaries and identify high-risk devices, complemented by adaptive zero-trust capabilities with dynamic risk and compliance scoring.

The new FortiEndpoint enhancements are expected to be available in the third quarter of 2026.
