Cognition has launched Devin Desktop, the next generation of Windsurf, positioning it as a unified command centre for engineering teams managing fleets of AI agents across complex software development workflows.

The platform combines a full code editor with a dashboard for coordinating every AI agent running across a team’s projects — whether local, cloud-based, or command-line — from a single interface. A new local agent, Devin Local, replaces Cascade and delivers up to 30 per cent greater efficiency while supporting next-generation agentic capabilities such as subagents.

Open to Any Agent

Devin Desktop launches with support for the Agent Client Protocol (ACP), an open standard that allows any compatible AI agent — including third-party or custom-built agents — to run inside the platform alongside Devin. At launch, supported agents include Codex, Claude Agent, and OpenCode. Third-party agents share the same dashboard view, context, and Spaces — Cognition’s new project-grouping feature — as Devin itself.

Cognition is also developing an agent router, expected in coming weeks, that will automatically direct tasks to whichever agent or model completes them most efficiently, with controls for enterprises to balance performance and cost.

For regulated industries requiring oversight and governance of AI systems, the platform enables proprietary or custom-built agents to be managed alongside Devin with shared context. Early design partners include Ramp, Harvey AI, NVIDIA, Modal, and Intact Financial.
