NetApp has announced two developments with Google Cloud: the general availability of a unified file-and-block cloud storage service, and NetApp’s own internal adoption of Google’s Gemini Enterprise AI to streamline product development and sales operations. Both announcements were made at Google Cloud Next 2026.
Unified storage now available across all Google Cloud regions
Google Cloud NetApp Volumes Flex Unified Service Level is now generally available, delivering a single storage pool for both file and block workloads across all Google Cloud regions. The service allows enterprises to run high-performance applications — including databases, electronic design automation, and VMware workloads — without modifying existing applications or rearchitecting their environments.
Alongside the storage announcement, NetApp also launched the general availability of NetApp Data Migrator (NDM), a multi-cloud data migration service that allows customers to move data across cloud environments without specialist expertise.
“Customers can move their enterprise data, whether block or file, into Google Cloud NetApp Volumes easily, and once it’s there, they can use Google Cloud services, including for AI, directly on that data without needing to move or duplicate it again. With these updates, NetApp and Google have removed a major source of cost, delay, and complexity in AI adoption.” — Pravjit Tiwana, SVP and General Manager, Cloud Storage and Services, NetApp
NetApp becomes its own Gemini Enterprise customer
In a separate but related move, NetApp has deployed Gemini Enterprise internally across its product development and sales teams — making it a customer of the same AI capabilities it helps bring to market with Google Cloud. The company says the deployment is already reducing sales ramp time by an estimated one month, by enabling sales teams to match customers to relevant solutions more quickly.
NetApp has also deployed Google Security Operations to enhance threat management, using the platform’s AI-driven automation to strengthen proactive threat prevention and reduce analyst exposure to repetitive tasks.
“AI is an imperative for enterprise success, and NetApp is committed to leading by example. Adopting Gemini Enterprise to help accelerate internal sales and development workflows builds on our leadership in enabling enterprise AI innovation. Customers can rely on our expertise and experience as they adopt or build AI to achieve their own goals.” — César Cernuda, President, NetApp
The dual announcement positions NetApp as both an infrastructure provider and a practitioner of the AI tooling it sells — a narrative that is becoming more common among enterprise tech vendors seeking to validate AI productivity claims with internal evidence.
