Consumer privacy company ExpressVPN has launched ExpressAI, an AI platform built on confidential computing architecture that it says prevents anyone — including ExpressVPN itself — from reading user conversations or data.
The Privacy Problem With AI

ExpressAI is designed to address a core tension in mainstream AI adoption: the more useful the tool, the more sensitive information users tend to share with it. Work documents, financial questions, and personal details regularly pass through AI chat interfaces, yet most platforms process this data on conventional servers with few cryptographic guarantees.
ExpressAI uses secure computing enclave technology to ensure that conversations are decrypted only within a cryptographically isolated environment that is inaccessible to the host system and infrastructure operators. The platform applies zero-knowledge, end-to-end encryption, meaning user data is not fed into model training pipelines and conversations can be configured to delete automatically via a “Ghost Mode” feature.
“The best way to protect user data is not to collect it in the first place. We’re not just making privacy claims — we’re proving it with cryptographic guarantees. With our enclave architecture, your messages exist in a secure, isolated environment that even we can’t access.” — Shay Peretz, COO, ExpressVPN
Five AI Models at Launch
At launch, ExpressAI offers five AI models: OpenAI’s GPT OSS 120B for general tasks; DeepSeek R1 Distill 32B for multi-step reasoning; Qwen2.5-VL 32B for visual document analysis; Qwen3.5 35B-A3B for coding and multilingual tasks; and NVIDIA’s Nemotron 12B for technical and mathematical work. A side-by-side comparison view allows users to run the same prompt across multiple models simultaneously.
Independently Audited
The platform has been independently audited by cybersecurity firm Cure53, which conducted penetration testing and source code review across ExpressAI’s frontend, backend, cryptography, key management, and infrastructure. All identified vulnerabilities were resolved ahead of launch. The full audit report is publicly available.
ExpressAI is available via its standalone web application at app.expressai.com. It is included at no additional cost for ExpressVPN Pro plan users, who receive 500 daily credits, 2GB of storage, and access to all five models. Broader availability is being rolled out in phases.
