Notion has launched Custom Agents, a new category of AI assistants embedded in its workspace platform, marking its latest push into AI-powered automation for enterprise teams.
The Notion Custom Agents feature is now available in public beta for users on Business and Enterprise plans. First previewed at the company’s Make With Notion conference last September, the tool is designed to automate recurring workflows based on schedules or triggers.
Custom Agents operate within Notion’s connected workspace and integrate with tools such as Slack, email and calendar applications. Once configured, they can run in the background without requiring users to be online.
Automating Repetitive Workflows Across Teams
According to Notion, Custom Agents are built to handle repetitive tasks. Users can describe a workflow once, set a trigger or schedule, and the agent executes it automatically.
Examples include answering repeated internal questions using company knowledge stored in Notion, capturing and routing incoming tasks, and compiling regular reports by gathering and summarising updates. Teams can also create their own agents by chatting with Notion AI or building workflows from scratch, then sharing them across the organisation.
The company said the agents are designed to function across collaboration tools while drawing context from existing company data stored within Notion.
“Our Product Question Agent answers dozens of nuanced questions a day with a high success rate,” said Ben Levick, Head of Operations & Internal AI at Ramp.
James Lawley, Manager of IT Operations at Remote, added: “Notion Custom Agents transformed our IT helpdesk and saved 20 hours per week. We replaced an overgrown system with Custom Agents that triage with over 95% accuracy and resolve more than 25% of tickets autonomously, all while keeping Slack and Notion in sync.”
Customers including Vercel are also using the feature to offload routine tasks, Notion said.
Enterprise Controls, Security And Usage-Based Pricing
Notion said Custom Agents are built with enterprise-level controls. Each agent run is logged, allowing administrators to see what triggered it and what actions were taken. Permissions mirror those of Notion pages, and all changes are reversible within the platform’s collaboration layer.
The company added that Notion AI does not train on customer data. Enterprise plans include zero data retention, it said.
Custom Agents will operate on a credit-based pricing model. While in public beta, the feature will be free to use for two months. From May 4, customers can purchase Notion credits as an add-on to Business and Enterprise plans. Existing seat pricing and other AI features, including Notion Agent and AI Meeting Notes, will remain unchanged.
Administrators will receive alerts as they approach their credit limits. Custom Agents will automatically pause when credits are exhausted to prevent unexpected charges. Admins can also control who can create agents and disable them at any time.
Andrew McCarthy, General Manager for ANZ, Southeast Asia and India at Notion, said the launch reflects demand for workflow automation in the region.
“Custom Agents are a step-change for regional businesses: describe a workflow once, set a trigger or schedule, and the work runs in the background with full visibility and control,” he said.
The launch of Notion Custom Agents comes as productivity software providers compete to embed AI more deeply into workplace tools. Vendors are increasingly focusing on automation that runs continuously, rather than AI features that require manual prompts.
For enterprise teams in Singapore and across Asia-Pacific, governance, data privacy and cost controls remain key considerations when adopting AI-driven automation.
Custom Agents are available now in public beta for Business and Enterprise users. Paid credit usage will begin on May 4, following the two-month free beta period.
