Cloud communications provider 8×8 has launched a self-service SMS fraud protection tool designed to help businesses detect and block threats such as Artificially Inflated Traffic (AIT) in real time.

The new service, called 8×8 Omni Shield Self-Service, is built into the company’s 8×8 Connect messaging platform and enables non-technical staff to monitor and respond to suspicious SMS activity through an intuitive dashboard.

Tackling a US$2.1 Billion Problem

SMS fraud continues to escalate worldwide. Industry estimates put business losses from smishing, spoofing and AIT at US$2.1 billion in 2023. Many existing tools are reactive, requiring developer input or delayed reporting, leaving businesses vulnerable.

Unlike traditional fraud detection systems, Omni Shield places control in the hands of business users without requiring technical support tickets or developer resources.

The solution is particularly relevant for mobile-first markets such as Southeast Asia, where SMS underpins key services including one-time banking passwords and logistics notifications. 8×8 said early adopters of Omni Shield are already reporting lower AIT-related costs and greater confidence in SMS campaign results.
