Google Brings Gemini-Powered AI Mode to Singapore Search

Google has introduced its new AI Mode in Search to users in Singapore, offering more detailed and conversational results for complex questions.

The feature, powered by the company’s Gemini 2.5 artificial intelligence model, allows users to pose longer and more specific queries directly in Google Search. First launched as an experiment in the United States earlier this year, AI Mode is now available to all Singapore users in English.

Answering complex queries

AI Mode is designed to handle multi-layered searches, such as comparing travel destinations, planning family outings or exploring how-to guides. Instead of returning a simple list of links, the tool generates a structured response with key considerations, supported by relevant web sources.

Google said early testers submitted queries two to three times longer than usual searches, showing demand for deeper answers. For example, a question like “What are safe and affordable travel destinations from Singapore for a short weekend trip in September?” could generate suggestions with travel times, weather conditions and activity options.

The feature also supports follow-up prompts, letting users refine searches without starting over.

Multimodal capabilities

Beyond text, AI Mode supports queries through voice and images. Users can tap the microphone icon to dictate questions, or use Google Lens to upload or snap a photo.

Google cited the example of identifying a houseplant: users can take a photo and ask how to care for it, with AI Mode combining visual recognition and text responses to provide step-by-step guidance.

The system uses a technique known as “query fan-out”, breaking a question into smaller subtopics to find more relevant content across the web. It draws on Google’s Knowledge Graph and real-time product data to supplement results.

What’s next

AI Mode can be accessed directly from the Google homepage or mobile app. The company has not announced when additional languages will be supported in Singapore.
