WhatsApp is rolling out new features that allow users to schedule group calls in advance and interact more seamlessly during conversations, in a bid to make the platform more versatile for both social and professional use.
The update introduces Scheduled Calls, enabling users to set up group calls ahead of time by inviting individuals or entire groups via the Calls tab. Once scheduled, attendees will receive reminders when the call is about to start.
The Calls tab has also been revamped to display upcoming calls, attendee lists, and shareable call links that can be added to calendars. Call creators will now get notifications when someone joins via a shared link.
In addition, WhatsApp has added new in-call interaction tools. Participants can now “raise a hand” to signal they wish to speak, or send emoji reactions without breaking the conversation flow.
These updates are being rolled out globally in stages, and WhatsApp reiterated that all calls remain protected with end-to-end encryption.
