YouTube is rolling out a more affordable ad-free subscription plan – Premium Lite – to users in Singapore, as the video-streaming giant expands its pilot programme to Southeast Asia.
Starting today, YouTube viewers in Singapore can subscribe to Premium Lite for S$7.98 per month. The plan offers ad-free streaming across most video content, including genres such as gaming, comedy, cooking and educational videos. Full nationwide availability is expected in the coming weeks.
The launch follows what YouTube described as the continued success of its broader subscription business, including YouTube Premium and YouTube Music, which recently surpassed 125 million subscribers globally.
Ad-Free Viewing, With Some Exceptions
Unlike the full YouTube Premium tier, Premium Lite strips away pre-roll and mid-roll ads from most videos across devices – including phones, laptops and smart TVs. However, ads will still appear in some areas such as Shorts, music content, and during search or browsing.
“For users seeking ad-free music on YouTube and YouTube Music, plus offline downloads and background play, the existing YouTube Premium plan is recommended,” YouTube stated in its announcement.
The standard YouTube Premium plan in Singapore currently costs S$11.98 per month and includes additional features such as background playback and offline downloads.
Expanding Subscription Options
The introduction of Premium Lite in Singapore marks a continued push by YouTube to offer more flexible subscription options that match different viewing habits.
“YouTube Premium Lite is designed for viewers who primarily seek an ad-free experience,” the company said, adding that the new tier also presents more monetisation opportunities for creators and partners.
YouTube also confirmed plans to expand the Premium Lite pilot into more countries later this year as part of its broader effort to diversify its subscription offerings.
