Global technology brand HONOR has announced its HONOR ALPHA PLAN, a strategic roadmap aimed at transitioning the company from a smartphone maker into a leading AI device ecosystem player. The three-step plan, revealed at MWC Barcelona 2025, envisions a future where AI-powered devices enhance human potential, drive industry-wide collaboration, and ultimately shape a new AI-driven civilization.

James Li, CEO of HONOR, described the AI revolution as a transformative force. “AI will completely reshape productivity, society, and culture,” he said. “I call on the industry to be truly open so we can fully embrace this AI future – let’s do it together.”

A Three-Stage AI Vision

HONOR’s plan unfolds in three phases:

1. The Agentic AI Era: HONOR aims to develop intelligent smartphones that incorporate human-centric AI.
2. The Physical AI Era: The company will expand AI technology beyond smartphones, fostering an open AI ecosystem through industry partnerships.
3. The AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) Era: HONOR envisions AI driving a new paradigm in human civilization, with seamless collaboration between carbon-based life and silicon-based intelligence.

At the core of this vision is the intelligent phone, which will feature advanced AI capabilities designed to assist users in everyday tasks. A demonstration at MWC, in collaboration with Google Cloud and Qualcomm Technologies, showcased an AI agent that could make a restaurant reservation while considering calendar appointments and traffic conditions.

Breakthrough AI Technologies

HONOR also introduced AiMAGE, its new AI-powered imaging technology. Using a hybrid device-cloud AI model, AiMAGE improves image clarity through a 1.3 billion parameter on-device model and a 12.4 billion parameter cloud-based model. HONOR plans to roll out an AI Upscale feature for restoring old portraits on its HONOR Magic7 series, powered by the Snapdragon® 8 Elite Mobile Platform.

Other AI advancements include:

• AI Deepfake Detection, set to be introduced in HONOR’s flagship smartphones and foldable devices.
• Cross-ecosystem file-sharing technology, enabling high-speed file transfers between iOS and Android devices.

$10 Billion Investment in Open AI Collaboration

As part of its commitment to fostering an open AI ecosystem, HONOR announced a $10 billion investment over the next five years to drive AI development and industry-wide cooperation. Global tech leaders, including Google Cloud, Qualcomm, CKH Group, Orange, Telefónica, and Vodafone, joined HONOR in a symbolic tree-lighting ceremony at MWC to signify their commitment to co-developing AI solutions.

“Collaboration is key to building an open AI ecosystem,” said Matt Waldbusser, Managing Director, Global Solutions and Consumer AI, Google Cloud. “We are working closely with HONOR to integrate Google’s Gemini AI models into their solutions while prioritising data security and privacy.”

Seven-Year Software Support and Sustainability Pledge

Emphasising its consumer-first approach, HONOR pledged seven years of Android OS and security updates for its HONOR Magic series, starting with the Magic7 Pro in the European Union.

In addition, HONOR has accelerated its sustainability targets, now aiming for operational carbon neutrality by 2040 – five years ahead of schedule. The company also set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its supply chain and products by 2050.

New AI-Powered Devices Unveiled

At MWC 2025, HONOR introduced a range of AI-driven devices, including:

• HONOR MagicBook Pro 14 – An AI-powered laptop with a Vine-leaf curved design, HONOR Turbo X performance, and long battery life.
• HONOR Pad V9 – A tablet with a 2.8K HONOR Eye Comfort Display and AI-powered features for work and study.
• HONOR Watch 5 Ultra – A smartwatch with 15-day battery life and fitness tracking.
• HONOR Earbuds Open – Ergonomic earbuds featuring AI-powered translation and real-time interpretation.
