This Innovative New Pilot Could Change How You Use Postal Services in Singapore

Singapore – Stellar Lifestyle and Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) are launching an exciting new pilot that could revolutionize postal services in Singapore. For the first time ever, SingPost will use SMRT-operated trains for postal collection as part of a bold new initiative to bring postal service points closer to MRT stations.

The pilot, which spans three months, aims to explore how MRT trains can enhance postal operations by reducing costs and carbon emissions. This new approach promises to make postal services more convenient for commuters and businesses alike, integrating postal points within train stations to create a seamless experience. Imagine dropping off your parcels at the MRT station on your way to work or while running errands – no more detours to the post office!

From 25 June, pre-selected Mail Ambassadors will begin their daily journeys, transporting postal items from Tampines and Raffles Place MRT stations to SingPost’s sorting facility near Paya Lebar MRT station. Operating during off-peak hours from 11am to 2pm, up to two uniformed Mail Ambassadors will ride the familiar MRT cabins, making this eco-friendly service highly visible to the public.

Mr Tony Heng, President of Stellar Lifestyle, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating: “Aligned with SMRT’s vision of Moving People, Enhancing Lifestyles, at the heart of all of Stellar Lifestyle’s activities is a commitment to promoting a more sustainable way of living, working and operating businesses. Thus, we are excited to partner SingPost on this pilot that leverages the island-wide train network operated by SMRT. We remain on the lookout for new opportunities with like-minded companies to not only enrich the commuter experience but drive positive change or impact to the communities we serve.”

Mr Shahrin Abdol Salam, Chief Executive Officer Singapore, SingPost, shared similar sentiments: “SingPost is heartened to deepen our partnership with Stellar Lifestyle, leveraging their expertise within the transportation ecosystem to explore solutions in facilitating urban logistics in Singapore. Furthermore, the extension of our collaboration with Stellar Lifestyle will continue to bring convenience to consumers and SMEs by strategically situating our service points along key transportation nodes across Singapore. The extensive rail network is highly accessible hence allowing us to bring our services closer to the community, seamlessly integrating into their daily routines. Together, we will forge forward through innovation to better serve our customers and contribute towards a progressive Singapore.”

This isn’t SingPost’s first move towards enhancing convenience for commuters. In March 2024, they opened their first standalone POPStop at Tampines MRT station, integrating parcel drop-offs and returns into daily commutes.

Looking forward, SingPost and Stellar Lifestyle plan to expand the trial to more MRT stations across other SMRT-operated lines, depending on the pilot’s success. They also aim to identify additional locations for POPStops and service points, further embedding convenience into the heart of Singapore’s transportation network.
