Singapore Sees Surge in Generative AI Job Postings, Reports Indeed

Singapore – Job opportunities in Singapore that involve generative artificial intelligence (AI) are on the rise, according to recent data from Indeed, the leading global matching and hiring platform. By the end of March, one in every 190 job postings in Singapore was related to generative AI, nearly double the number from three months earlier.

Callam Pickering, APAC Senior Economist at Indeed, noted that Singapore has embraced generative AI technologies faster than other major economies. “The share of Singapore job postings mentioning GenAI is 4.3 times higher than in the United States, 4.7 times higher than in the United Kingdom, and 6.5 times higher than in Australia. It is early stages, but Singapore may be establishing itself as a hub for GenAI expertise,” he said.

While generative AI job postings are increasing, overall job postings in Singapore rose by 0.4% in April compared to the previous month. This uptick follows significant drops in February and March. Despite a 9.6% year-on-year decline, job postings remain 62% higher than pre-pandemic levels.

Postings across all sectors continue to surpass their pre-pandemic baselines, with about a quarter of sectors experiencing more than double the number of postings compared to pre-pandemic times. Notably, nursing job postings saw a 34% increase, medical information rose by 33%, and beauty & wellness grew by 32%. Cleaning & sanitation and architecture also saw strong gains of 25% and 21%, respectively.

Conversely, job postings in personal care & home health dropped by 30%, production & manufacturing by 19%, human resources by 19%, and marketing by 17%. Interestingly, despite the increased demand for nurses, there was a 17% decline in job postings for physicians & surgeons.

Pickering commented on the broader implications of these trends, stating, “Singapore’s labour market remains incredibly tight, with strong competition for talent across most occupational categories. In April, we saw a modest rise in job postings, which defied the broader downward trend over the past year. Overall, unemployment in Singapore remains low, and skill shortages are common. Recruitment is still challenging, but with a 9.6% decline in job postings over the past year, it is not as difficult as it was a year ago.”

The data suggests that while job creation in Singapore remains robust, the landscape is shifting with new opportunities emerging, particularly in fields related to generative AI.
