Samsung has announced the return of its Solve for Tomorrow competition in Singapore for its eighth edition. Themed “Dare to Dream: Be the Champion of Social Change,” the competition aims to inspire youths to tackle social issues within their communities using technology and innovation.
Dennis Jang, President of Samsung Electronics Singapore, emphasized the competition’s broader impact, stating, “Solve for Tomorrow is more than just a contest; it’s a platform for young minds to explore their potential and turn their ideas into tangible solutions. We are excited to see the innovations that our youths can bring to the table and proud to empower them to leverage technology for a brighter collective future.”
Wang Zerui, leader of Team Blahaj, the previous competition’s winning team, highlighted the unique blend of technological creativity and societal impact promoted by Solve for Tomorrow. “Throughout this journey, we feel that we have pushed ourselves beyond the limits of our skills, allowing us to gain invaluable experiences along the way,” he shared.
Supporting the national Digital for Life movement, Solve for Tomorrow 2024 encourages participants to develop interdisciplinary skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and STEM knowledge, preparing them for the future workforce.
Phylliscia Chew, head of Computer Science at NUS High School and mentor to the winning team, praised the competition for bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. “The competition bridges the gap between the theoretical knowledge learned in class and practical application, enabling students to tackle real-world issues directly,” she said.
Themes
This year, Samsung has identified five themes for participants to focus on: Environmental Sustainability, Health, Sports & Wellness, Education & Learning, Inclusive, Harmonious Society, and Singapore’s Digital Future. Each theme encourages bold, innovative ideas to address pressing issues and contribute to a sustainable and inclusive future.
From today until 14 July 2024, students aged 12 to 18 can form groups of two to four and submit their innovative ideas or solutions on the Solve for Tomorrow 2024 website. Eligible participants include students from various secondary schools across Singapore.

The top three teams will receive substantial prizes, with the first prize winning team receiving S$10,000 worth of Samsung products and a S$7,000 cash prize. The second and third prize winners will receive S$7,000 and S$5,000 worth of Samsung products, alongside cash prizes of S$5,000 and S$3,000, respectively.
