Huawei Wins at Singapore’s OneMap GPT Challenge with Innovative AI-Geospatial Prototype

Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communication technology (ICT), has emerged as one of the winners in the inaugural OneMap GPT Challenge, a competition aimed at fostering innovative solutions using AI technologies on Singapore’s authoritative map, OneMap. The challenge, organized by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) and supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), saw Huawei’s prototype, an inter-generational itinerary planner/property finder, standing out among 41 entries from a diverse group of participants including companies, academia, and individuals.

Unveiled at Geo Connect Asia 2024, Huawei’s winning solution, developed by its Applied Intelligence Centre of Excellence on Huawei Cloud, is touted as the world’s first application to integrate geospatial and generative AI technologies. This integration leverages both public and private sector data to offer a sophisticated planning tool for residents. Users can plan daily activities, make lifestyle decisions, and even search for property, all personalized to their needs.

The prototype ingeniously utilizes a variety of data sources, including property information from EdgeProp, ERA, and PropNex; government data such as OneMap open datasets and HDB housing policies; mobility data from SBS Transit and BlueSG; retail data from Sheng Siong and UOB TMRW; and lifestyle information from the National Library Board and Sentosa Development Corporation TMRW. This allows the tool to offer comprehensive advice, from planning a day’s itinerary for property viewings based on user preferences to recommending suitable living arrangements near family members.

Dr. Ashley Fernandez, Chief Data and AI Officer at Huawei International, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the challenge and highlighted the complexities of integrating geospatial data with GPT AI models. “Geospatial data comprises various formats and represents our dynamic world in time and space. It’s exciting to reimagine the entire data and GPT stack through our extensive R&D experience,” said Fernandez.

Mr. Maxi Wang, CEO of Huawei International, emphasized the critical role of geospatial-powered solutions in Singapore’s smart nation initiative and the potential of such technologies to address real-world challenges. “By leveraging synergies between geospatial and generative AI, we hope to fully unleash the true potential and opportunities of data with technologies,” Wang stated.

Looking ahead, Huawei plans to further develop the prototype in partnership with SLA and seeks to collaborate with more public agencies in Singapore. The aim is to build capabilities ranging from knowledge transfer to value creation for the local community and contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable Singapore.
